It's April which means we are reading (or in my case have already read) a new book for book club! This month's pick is from Kelly and it is called the Book of Unknown Americans by Christina Henriquez.  Here's a picture of the cover: As I mentioned, I have already read the book. It's a pretty quick read and I will not spoil anything by talking about it here yet! I got in paperback at Target but you can find it online or at the library. Did you read last month's book, Her? I'm curious what you thought about it if you did. I thought it was kind of weird and creepy and I kept expecting more. It was a good book but a little disappointing in who "Her" was and what that was all about... Happy Reading!  Sandae

It's here! The next book that is on tap for our book club! Courtney picked this one and I'm excited to read it! I've got a trip out of town next week so I'm looking forward to some quiet time and reading. I just got it in the mail but it is available at some libraries. I purchased it from Target online but I know that Amazon and Barnes and Noble also carry it.  I don't know a lot about this book but I do know a movie was made about it. I have read mixed reviews so I am looking forward to reading it and reviewing it on my own.  Switching gears: did you read last month's book "The Summer Kitchen"? What did you think about it? I thought it was a good book and I loved the volunteer work and the story that went along with it. I also liked that it was told from two points of view. I'm going to share our book club selection for February and recap a little from last month's choice in this post.  We are reading The Summer Kitchen by Lisa Wingate this month- depending on which edition you get, the cover could look like this or a different one but make sure that you choose the right author. Believe it or not, there is another book by the same title but a different author. It can be found in the library or online.  This month is Rebekah's choice. I hope she doesn't mind because I will tell you how she happened upon this month's selection. Our book last month was called The Kitchen House (I will talk about that in a minute) but Rebekah picked up this book instead. We were sitting there after dinner starting to discuss the book when she mentioned something about horses or whatever that just didn't seem to make sense. As I promised in my 2014 Reflections post written earlier this week, I want to make sure that I am sharing the book club selections for the month. Our actual book club meets on the 3rd Tuesday night of each month. I started the book club after reading The Happiness Project and getting inspired to start my own. I want to make sure that my virtual friends are able to read our selections and weigh in on their opinions as well. I will review the book after the book club meets and let you all know what everyone thought of it.  Our January Book Club Selection is The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom. Karen picked this one and it can be easily found at the library, Target, Barnes and Noble and Amazon.  This book has been described as being similar to The Help by Kathryn Stockett.  I loved The Help and am already about halfway through this book as well. If you know me personally or if you've been keeping up with the blog for the last few months, you know I love to read. I have a tab on my blog called Book Club where I share the book that we are reading for the month.  The book club, known affectionately by SBC or Sandae's Book Club, was born after reading the book The Happiness Project. I won't tell everything about this book, but I will tell you that it literally changed my life and the way I think and do things. If you haven't read it, you need to. You do not have to be unhappy to read this book either. One of the things I learned from the book though was if you want something, like joining a book club, and it isn't readily available, do it yourself. And that's what I did. I started a book club a year ago and we are going strong. We've had two people join and one person leave and we've made new friends, read new books, and tried new recipes.
