Sunday Style: Talbots and Dress For Success

Image
This post is sponsored by Talbots and Stylinity.  I am so excited to partner with  Talbots  on a new project! I have loved  Talbots  for years for their classic pieces but I also love that they have a special relationship with none other than (drumroll please) Oprah herself!  Let me explain...For the fourth year, the O Magazine has partnered with  Talbots  on a special collection benefiting one of my favorite charities,  Dress For Success , of which 30% of the net proceeds goes to them! You can help support the cause by buying one of the special pieces from this collection or you can donate money in a store or online at  Talbots.com .  Many of you know that I used to volunteer in Michigan at the  Dress For Success  in Ann Arbor for a couple of years. Nothing is better than helping women pick out outfits that can change their lives. A simple job interview outfit that we take for granted can be found at  Dress...

Sunday Style: Red

Image
Red is one of the primary colors along with many others that I love including green, blue and yellow. Red, green and blue are combined to make the colors in a computer or a television screen. Reds can vary in shades from light pink to dark like maroon or burgundy. The color red in blood comes from hemoglobin, the iron-containing protein found in the red blood cells of all vertebrates. Red can be found in all different things in nature like the Grand Canyon, the planet Mars and even on humans in the form of hair and lips.  Since red is the color of blood, it has often historically been associated with sacrifice, courage and danger. In modern times in the US and Europe, red is associated with heat, activity, love, passion, sexuality, anger and even joy. In China, India and many other countries in Asia, it is considered to be the color of happiness and good fortune.  I have the good fortune of reviewing a new to me company today called GCGme  . I am wearing this ...

I'm All the Way Up

Image
"Nothing can stop me, I'm all the way up, I'm all the way up..." I like this song by Fat Joe and Remy Ma minus a few of the lyrics...but I digress.  It exudes confidence and the amount of wealth that they have. It paints a picture that they have everything and more(!) that they need in life. They're all the way up! While I love the confidence that this song portrays, the reality is that what is up must come down. But on the flip side, if you're down, it's only going to get better. You can only go up. I love the verse in Psalm 23:4 that says "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."  David is in the valley. He is in the depths of despair. He is crying out but David realizes that things will get better and that he will be taken care of.  Maybe someone needs this reminder as much as I do. I wanted to share my thoughts with you all. It will get ...

Sunday Style: Black

Image
Last year I started doing a series with colors. I haven"t been posting these for a while. I don't know why, I just haven't. For those of you who are new to this blog or haven't read this series, it is usually talking about a specific color and what it means and/or the significance or importance of this color in my life. Today's post will be no exception although I will focus a little on recent events going on around us as well. I only have two pictures to share of today's outfit, but I'd like the post to be the focal point today. So here goes...Black. When I type in the word "black" in my browser, it gives me options about the color black but also black lives matter, black people unite, black panther, black mass, black widow spider etc. I'll focus on the color for a minute.  Black is the darkest color and is the result of the absence or complete absorption of light. It is literally a color without a hue. In Europe and North America it is t...

Sunday Style: Vintage Style

If I haven't made you a believer in  karinadresses  yet, then I hope after this post you will be one! Every time I wear one of their dresses, I receive so many compliments and I feel like a million bucks!  As many of you know, I've been going through a personal transformation. My fitness routines and diet have changed and my body is catching up. When I first saw this dress, I wasn't sure how it would look on me. I struggle with all of the same insecurities that you all do!  I thought it might be too straight for me since I have wider hips- the struggle is real for us real women with real bodies and real curves!  But when I got it and put it on, all of those insecurities faded and to my amazement, I was so thrilled with everything about this dress. From the cut to the pattern to the color, I am in love with it. The fabric has stretch to it so it helps to cover and even enhance my curves. I'm proud of the body that I have and Iike to show it.  I'm...

Pleather Perfection

Image
Okay okay- first of all, pleather? Really? Well, I am not about to go out and pay good money for some leather pants. Pleather is perfectly fine with me. Seriously. Secondly, you will never guess where I bought these pleather pants! (Read through to the end and I might tell you there...) I thought this was a great outfit for going out to dinner with the family on Christmas Eve. We had a table for seven and the best food and conversation that I've had in a while. (Friends-don't get mad about it, I love you all too...). I am thinking of some additional ways to wear these pants but for this night, I went basic with a gray turtleneck sweater, black patent heels and a leopard clutch. This was one of the easiest outfits to put together-seriously took no time at all and I felt like a million bucks. Here are a few pictures of this outfit: So, what do you all think? Surprise, surprise but these are actually coated jeggings from WalMart! Eek! If you know me, you know I am typical...

Sunday Style: White

Image
You can wear white after Labor Day. Forget all of those ancient rules that you learned from your mom and grandma. I happen to think white is a beautiful color (or non-color which ever way you want to view it). White can be a color that symbolizes many things. Purity, safety, cleanliness. It's also considered to be the color of perfection. For me, it also represents a new beginning or wiping the slate clean.  White can be worn in its purest form or can be worn in various other shades like off white or cream. I'm not always a big fan of white but these white jeans from Royalty for Me  are so practical and can be worn in so many different ways.  Don't feel that you can only wear white jeans in the summer either! I'm wearing them in the dead of winter and I like it! The first look is with a long sleeve shirt, blanket scarf and boots. I then added a sweater and a clutch for more layering. I'm loving the results! What do you think?  ...

Talbots Trunk Show

Image
What else is more fun on a cloudy Friday afternoon than a visit with some of my favorite people at Talbots and seeing some new fashions? The atmosphere was alive and buzzing with excitement when I got to the store. It's always fun to see people that I enjoy working with and meeting new ones too! One of the things I love most about Talbots is that they treat all of their customers with care and respect. You can tell they all truly love what they do.  The brand is classic with their styles and fabrics yet on trend with updated patterns and accessories. I loved taking a look around the store before and after the show to see and feel all of the items in the new line. Three of the stores in the area combined forces along with a Regional Sales Manager to make this fashion show happen. I loved that they used their customers to model the fashions too! I walked away with a few things including this look from today: Sweater and skirt- Talbots (recent) Boots- Avenue (recent online)...
