Sunday Style: Red

Image
Red is one of the primary colors along with many others that I love including green, blue and yellow. Red, green and blue are combined to make the colors in a computer or a television screen. Reds can vary in shades from light pink to dark like maroon or burgundy. The color red in blood comes from hemoglobin, the iron-containing protein found in the red blood cells of all vertebrates. Red can be found in all different things in nature like the Grand Canyon, the planet Mars and even on humans in the form of hair and lips.  Since red is the color of blood, it has often historically been associated with sacrifice, courage and danger. In modern times in the US and Europe, red is associated with heat, activity, love, passion, sexuality, anger and even joy. In China, India and many other countries in Asia, it is considered to be the color of happiness and good fortune.  I have the good fortune of reviewing a new to me company today called GCGme  . I am wearing this ...

Autumn Watercolors

Image
Okay, okay, fine. I like autumn. I am still resisting it and the cold weather that comes behind it, but I am liking the briskness in the air and the smell of fall. Most of all, I like the colors. There is still a lot of green but I am noticing the leaves changing colors to yellow, orange and red.  Similar to the changing of the leaves is this karinadresses in the Autumn Watercolor design. I am wearing the Penelope  in this design and it is just magnificent! I cannot say enough how much I love these dresses but the Penelope is not only flattering but it's got pockets too! I love the way the waist is defined and the skirt flows out a little. It balances out my smaller top part of my body with the larger bottom part of my body.  The colors are beautiful just like the changing colors all around us. If we stop long enough just for a minute, we can enjoy all of the beauty that is in autumn.  I've styled this dress two ways for you:  Dressy Casual ...

Sunday Style: The Amazing Amelia

Image
Seriously, it's amazing. Like, totes amaze. I am loving the Amelia dress from Lularoe! You all know that my goal is to help women everywhere look and feel fabulous and this dress is seriously good for every body shape! Lularoe is awesome in a lot of ways but one of them that I love is that each piece of clothing is only available in a limited number of prints and patterns. It is possible to have a dress that no one else has like it (well, anyone that you know anyways...) This Amelia is perfect to be dressed up or down. I wore it with heels one day and then changed it up another day for teaching at school and layered a denim jacket over it and wore some sparkly tennis shoes. The versatility is amazing! Oh, and did I mention it has pockets?! I thought I would share a few pics of this dress both ways- which way do you like better? Dressy   Casual Thanks so much to my friend Leigh  for this amazing Amelia! She is sharing the love and you can w...

Style Spotlight: Perfectly Priscilla

Image
Be still my beating heart! I am one smitten kitten! I partnered up with Perfectly Priscilla  to share their online boutique and give my fellow curvy fashionistas a taste of what they have to offer. Even though it is the end of September, I am still not ready for the cold winter months that lie ahead. Fall is a sign of what is to come. Cold mornings and evenings: seat warmers necessary on the way to and from work and school. One good thing about fall is the fashion. It is a time for the autumnal hues to come out, the boots and head wear as well as the cozy sweaters. Ahh fall! Why must I be so conflicted?!  With the help of Perfectly Priscilla , I am showing you a couple of my favorite fall looks. The first is a gorgeous teal patterned dress named London's Calling . I paired this with some taupe booties and tassel earrings. Subtle accessories and footwear are a must for a busy patterned dress. And definitely check out the price on this one! Super steal!  ...

Purple Vines: One Dress, Two Ways

Image
These karinadresses are my favorite! I wear them and write about them all the time. But I decided that I should show you a couple of different ways to wear them so you can get more for your investment. They are great lightweight dresses that I especially love to pack when I travel because they don't wrinkle and they pack so well!  So here's the deal- remember on Sunday I said I wasn't ready for fall? Well I still am not ready but I thought I could wear this dress into the new season as well as wearing it now! This is the Trudy  called Purple Vines and I am loving the sweetheart neck and swingy skirt! I love that this dress shows off my waist and makes me feel so good!  For now, it's still in the eighties and it's still hot out during the day. The mornings and evenings are cooler but not cold. I wore this dress with some block heel sandals and carried a beautiful gold envelope clutch.  For the second look, I decided to wear some booties and throw on a ha...

Sunday Style: Yellow

Image
I have decided that I'm not quite ready for fall just yet. The temps here are still warm but I do see a few leaves changing colors outside. I'm continuing my color series with a color that is bright and cheerful and I'm wearing a dress for summer still. Why not take advantage of the gorgeous temps that we're having?  Yellow is the color between green and orange in the spectrum of visible light.  It's the color of ripe lemons, sunflowers and gold. I associate yellow with brightness and happiness, yet according to Wikipedia, if you're in the US and Canada, you associate it with amusement, gentleness and spontaneity but also with duplicity, envy, jealousy and in the US, cowardice.  Eww I'm not a coward I thought as I read that. I'm bright and somewhat outgoing and cheerful. Yellow makes me shine and brightens my day when I see others wearing a bright yellow color!  Hmm well in Asia, it's seen as the color of happiness, glory, wisdom, harmony...

It's My Birthday!

Image
It's my birthday today! I normally don't make a big deal about it. I would not normally write about it or tell people about it but this year I feel like I should.  I've been going through a lot of tough times over the past year. I don't share publicly my struggles yet I do publicly offer encouragement to other people if they are struggling like me. I feel like I need to share what I'm learning as I go through this. It's hard to remember that He is in control and that I'm going to be fine. He will take care of us and provide our needs. He reminds us of this in the Bible yet I continue to be "oh ye of little faith"...ouch!  Anyways, I was talking to a friend today and I was reminded that last year I remember crying multiple times on my birthday. Call me Negative Nancy. I will share that I also lost my job one year ago just a few days before my birthday.  How much I have grown in one year! How much faith I have had to have and how much trust a...
