Sunday Style: Wearing My Heart on My Sleeve

Literally. I'm wearing hearts on my sleeves. The snow is coming down outside so I am warm and cozy inside. I have been working around the house and taking some time to do a couple of DIY projects too.

I saw a sweater online with heart elbow patches and it was selling for quite a bit. Now if you have seen my pink sweater with gold glitter elbow patches, you know I love things like this on my elbows! However, I didn't think I would wear it a whole lot so I decided to try to make my own.

I was surprised at easy it was too! I purchased a square of red glitter felt from Michaels and bought some Heat Bond that can fuse two fabrics together. I used a heart cookie cutter to trace the shape on the felt and then cut it out. It was so easy that I don't know why I haven't tried it before! It will be perfect for Valentine's Day themed outfits but I also see myself wearing it more since now it has more visual interest to it!

Here are a few pictures of my DIY project and some instructions:

Supplies I used:

Trace around the cookie cutter on the blank side of the felt so you don't see your outline on the glitter side:

Two hearts cut out:

Make sure you measure where you want your patches. I tried on the sweater first and then figured exactly where I wanted them. In the next two pictures, I an measuring to make sure they will be applied evenly.

Follow the instructions on the package for adhering the patches:

Both hearts now have the backing on them. Now follow the package instructions to adhere them to the sweater:

Here's the finished product! I'll wear it later this week since I'm currently snowed in!

Such a fun DIY project and very inexpensive. I found both the felt and the Heat Bond at Michaels. The felt was $.99 and the Heat Bond was $2.99 and I used a 40% off coupon on it. I used a sweater I already had but I was going to see if I could find one at a thrift store to use if I didn't have one. Super easy! I hope you all give it a try!

I hope you're all having a great Sunday! Stay warm and safe out there! Go Seahawks!
