Sunday Style: Monochromatic Sunday

Image
Today's Joyful June Style challenge prompt is Feeling Fruity. I am still loving this Loft golden foil pineapple tee so I decided to take it out for a spin again today. Why not pair it with something different than what I would normally wear? That's when I thought of wearing monochromatic color today.  I paired the tee with these light brown patterned pants from Kohls last year and went with the gold flats. I have a hard time wearing such a neutral color with nothing bright so I decided to wear some color (even though more muted colors) with the outfit. I'm still loving my Anthropolgie inspired bead necklace from Groopdealz and, of course, the wire bangles are so fun and bring in more color!  I'm thinking I love the end result and don't know why I didn't think of wearing these all together before! That's the beauty of these style challenges is that you have a theme of things basically to look for in your closet and then if you're like me, you end ...

Jumpin' July Style Challenge

Image
The last couple of months have been so fun while hosting these style challenges on Instagram! I have to admit that I almost didn't do one this month but I love having a challenge that helps me get dressed every day. It is helping me through the #noshopsummer that I am doing with some of my IG friends. (I'll be posting an update for May and June for 2014 Closet Remix Challenge next month).  I love hosting these and seeing all of the looks that everyone comes up with! The challenges are meant to be interpreted however you would like. They are suggestions to help you work with what you already have and/or wear things differently. I know it is helping me work through the clothes in my closet and I still find myself wearing some items with tags on them that I didn't realize that I had!  So, without further ado, here's the Jumpin' July Style challenge: There are no rules when participating in this challenge. Wear what you have or borrow, etc. Interpret...

Forty Before Forty: The Color Run

Image
Another item crossed off my list! This was an event that I have seen other people do and always thought this would be fun! Fast forward to earlier this year and I saw a Living Social deal for a discounted entry to the race. I think I ended up saving about $10 off the regular price.  Anyways, I wanted to enter this race but thought it would be a lot more fun with friends. I asked around and some people were either busy, not interested or just didn't want to run. I was mentioning it to my sister in law and she said she would like to do it. She invited a friend of hers as well and then there were three!  I didn't practice for this race like I did for the 5K I did last year. I read online that it was not a timed race and that walkers were welcomed. (That was an understatement.) I think it is meant to just be fun and get people motivated to exercise.  We showed up for the race wearing all white shirts like we were told on the website. We had to park a ways away and...

Joyful June Style: Days 16-22

Image
This past week's themes were so much fun! I had a blast dressing up each day and seeing all of your outfits as well!  Day 16- Sassy in Stripes- I took the opportunity this day to do some pattern mixing and wear my new floral skirt with an older striped tee. I sent a pair of shoes back and got a credit so I used some of the money to buy the skirt on sale. I saw a few other gorgeous ladies with the skirt and the dress in this pattern and loved it so I decided to give it a try when I saw it pop back in my size!  I saw lots of pattern mixing on this day! I chose to feature my IRL (in real life) friend @craftymama77 for this day. I love how she has gotten so bold and is having fun with fashion and this style challenge!  Day 17- Inspired by Carrie Bradshaw- This was a tie for my favorite day! I didn't religiously watch and Sex and the City when it was on, but I do like the show and the movies. Besides, she has impeccable style and who else can get a...

Sunday Style: High Tea with Lemon

Image
This week I was able to cross another item off of my Forty Before Forty list and that was have high tea in a tearoom. My husband said that we actually had tea before on Mackinac Island but I didn't remember that. I figured it would have been about 9 or 10 years ago that he was talking about. I put this on my list because I have always wanted to say " I'm going to go have tea". Sadly, there were no crumpets but we did have scones and tarts.  I'm fortunate to have friends that want to share in doing things on my list. I ask different friends to do different activities based on interests that I know they have and things we share in common. My friends Rebekah and Rachel went to tea with me and they were the perfect people to share this experience with.  I'll get back to the tea in a minute but I wanted to talk about what I wore first. I had been eyeing this dress from Banana Republic for a while and I decided to get it back in May. I hadn't been shoppi...
