Throwback Thursday: Halloween Edition

When we were growing up, we didn't celebrate Halloween. We had Harvest parties but we never dressed up and went trick or treating. It was also my mom's birthday so we usually had cake or something but nothing to do with such a "pagan" holiday.

Fast forward to us having our own child and wanting to celebrate! Every year we visit Greenfield Village as a family and do the Pumpkin Walk. Hundreds of pumpkins are carved and decorated and line the streets of the village. Costumes of classic characters are worn by the workers, treats are handed out and children ( and grown- ups alike) are scared by the scarecrows and Headless Horseman.

Every year we attend this with a couple of friends so I thought I would show you some of our most recent costumes from the last few years. I apologize in advance for poor quality of some of the photos! A lot of times we try to do a theme but at least my husband and I will do a couple costume or a family costume.

2010- this year we actually (gasp!) bought costumes! My son was really into the Super Mario Bros so he and my husband went as Mario and Luigi and I was Princess Peach.

Our friends were some sort of parents in pajamas that year.

2011- we all went as the gang from Scooby Doo. I think this was one of my all-time favorites.

2012- we went with a different couple this year. My friend was off having a baby and couldn't make it. We had so much fun though this year dressing up! This for sure was my favorite costume to date!

Our friends went as people from Back to the Future.

2013- there were only the three of us this year since the baby was at home so we dressed up as Three's Company. This was not my favorite look at all but it was fun!

2014- this year we did couples costumes again. My husband and I were Ozzie and Sharon Osbourne. This was pretty fun and most people got it as soon as they saw us! P.S. I'm loving this red hair!

Our friends went as Heat Miser and Cold Miser- you'll have to look it up on the Internet- I know I did! Their costumes were awesome! Look at those pants!

With the exception of 2010, our costumes have been homemade. We mostly go to thrift stores once we get an idea of what we are going to be or we use items at home that we already have. You can create a whole new look with a wig or you can find different pieces of clothing to create something great. You don't need a lot of time or money, you just need a lot of imagination!

Hope you all have a fantastic Halloween and enjoy every minute of it with your friends and family!
