WhatUp Wednesday #80

Image
Hey friends! I can’t believe this is the third post I’ve written this week! I just have a lot of stuff I want to share!  This past Sunday I met up with a friend who I haven’t seen in a long time. We picked up carry out and sat out in lawn chairs and talked the afternoon away. It was so nice to catch up but it was nice just to see another person and have a conversation!  I wore this fun  maxi dress  from J Crew to meet my friend. I posted this a couple of weeks ago on my Instagram as an item I would buy- it was a steal! But it also is just a fun dress and fits perfectly!  I added some colorful accessories like a clutch, earrings and bracelets and just some casual shoes. I love all of the bright colors! I could also add a tennis shoes and a crossbody and it would be a different look. This dress would also be fun with a denim jacket. So many options!  You can shop the dress  here   You can shop the shoes  here You can shop the earrings  her...

Sunday Style: Floral Frenzy

Image
If you're a parent of a school age child like me, I'm sure you're in a frenzy. Getting ready for school to start and getting school supplies, clothing and haircuts- yes, I still am doing these and school starts in two weeks! I've been busy with work this summer but it's been a good one. No need to be in a frenzy when I'm still enjoying the summer and all of its glory- including the fashions!  Something super trendy this year is the off the shoulder blouse and dress. I am loving this floral dress so much! It's so bright and airy and the floral pattern is so good! It's a shorter style than I normally wear but I love the design and the high-low hem is very flattering. Think it's too short for you? It is actually a top but I sized up to wear as a dress!  Here's some pictures of this floral beauty: I chose to wear my bright neon pink sandals and carry a black clutch. It's okay to stare! I think it is anyways....but you could we...

When Life Hands You Lemons...

Image
When life hands you lemons, make lemonade! Anyone else ever get tired of hearing all of the positive things? Why can't I just be sour? Why can't I just wallow in my own self-pity? Well, you can. You can do this, but is that any way that you want to live your life?  Recently, life handed me some lemons. Like a lot of lemons. Like bushels and bushels of lemons. For a while, I was sour. I was bitter. I didn't look on the bright side. I chose to dwell on the negative. Why did these things happen to me? Why can't my life be great like everyone else?  I didn't realize that the lemons were handed to me so that I could make something more of myself. So that I could learn to trust, to love, to learn, to teach. I didn't realize that I was being used and will continue to be used to do His work. Sometimes we have to go through the fire to made into something beautiful. How can I expect my life to be polished if I get upset at every little swipe that is made at me?  Th...

Sunday Style: Vintage Style

Image
If I haven't made you a believer in  karinadresses  yet, then I hope after this post you will be one! Every time I wear one of their dresses, I receive so many compliments and I feel like a million bucks!  As many of you know, I've been going through a personal transformation. My fitness routines and diet have changed and my body is catching up. When I first saw this dress, I wasn't sure how it would look on me. I struggle with all of the same insecurities that you all do!  I thought it might be too straight for me since I have wider hips- the struggle is real for us real women with real bodies and real curves!  But when I got it and put it on, all of those insecurities faded and to my amazement, I was so thrilled with everything about this dress. From the cut to the pattern to the color, I am in love with it. The fabric has stretch to it so it helps to cover and even enhance my curves. I'm proud of the body that I have and Iike to show it.  I'm...

Sunday Style: Polka Dots in the City

Image
I could wear this dress all day every day. You know that feeling that you get when you just feel good? You've got a pretty dress on and you might feel a little like a princess? Yeah. That was me wearing this around town. Dainty Jewells has done it again! The perfect dress for parties or church or just wearing it on a Thursday. I love the design of this dress- a beautiful fitted bodice and a full skirt. The tie is detachable and adds extra to your oomph to the design and draws attention to your waistline.  Dainty Jewells is one of my favorite online shops that provides fashionable modest clothing. I love the modern and vintage designs of the clothing and the fabrics are beautiful! I also love that this company was the vision of a 16 year old girl who wanted to dress modestly and fashionable and wanted to share her designs with the world!  This dress design is called the Central Park and it also comes in girl sizes! Perfect for the holiday parties or pictures that yo...

Sunday Style: Transition

Image
We're in the middle of fall and the weather is forever changing. One of the things I love the most about this season is the brisk temps in the morning and the warmer sun in the afternoon. It is getting darker earlier (which I hate since it cuts into my walking time at night) and lighter later in the mornings.  Transition has to happen in all areas of life- including fashion! I love taking my clothes from season to season by changing them up a bit. I can add or take off a layer depending on the temps. I decided to try a new look with this beautiful midi skirt that I wore earlier in the year a couple of other ways.  Turtlenecks seem to be more popular this year and despite my hatred for them in the past (that admission is for you, Rebekah!), I decided to give them another try. This light gray one is perfect to wear with jeans but I also happened to love it with this skirt! I added some dark pumps and my favorite leopard clutch. I think I successfully transitioned this in...

Sunday Style: Butterflies

Image
I've always loved butterflies. I love going to the zoo or the gardens and visiting the butterfly houses. Butterflies are beautiful and colorful and are the perfect example of something that was ugly that transformed into something beautiful.  For a while, like for maybe a few years, I wanted a butterfly tattoo. I remember when I was working in California, my friend came over and had gotten a tattoo on her wrist. I liked her tattoo and told her that I wanted to get one of a butterfly. She drew one on my wrist and I remember thinking I wasn't quite brave enough to get one- yet.  Fast forward and my life has changed. Butterflies symbolize many things and every time I look down at my wrist, I am reminded of how far I've come and how far I have to go. Butterflies can mean good luck to some people or they can mean everything's going to be all right. It really depends on who you talk to. For me, butterflies symbolize the following things:        1) But...
