Presidents' Day, Going Bonkers and More

Image
When I was younger, I remember working at the bank and getting two days off instead of one. I know there are others out there who used to get off of work and school for Washington's Birthday and Lincoln's Birthday! I did a little research because it was driving me crazy thinking about it and here's the gist of the story: Indeed it was originally two days celebrating both Presidents' birthdays. However, there was a shift in the date due to the Uniform Monday Holiday Act ensuring long weekends for workers. In the 1980's, states were starting to change the name from Washington's Birthday to President's Day. By the early 2000's, most states had officially changed the date and the name to Presidents' Day. Federal offices and institutions (like banks!) are closed and most states take the day off and close state facilities as well.  Presidents' Day is always the third Monday of February and in modern days recognizes the lives of all the chief execut...

Going For The Gold

Image
Going for the gold. If I was in the Olympics, I'd be competing to win first place and wear that medal around my neck. In life, it's also a competition to work hard, play hard, love hard, live hard. I want to win at these things as much as anyone else does.  I'm going for the gold in my karinadresses  Penelope dress. It's navy with brown leaves and what makes it exceptionally golden, are the pockets! Any dress or skirt with pockets is all right with me!  Notice that I'm wearing this Penelope  with gold shoes and I'm also carrying a gold clutch. Gold is such a great neutral and goes with so many things! I kept my jewelry minimal so the dress can shine through but I am wearing a lovely multicolored gemstone cuff and earrings.  Dress- Karinadresses (recent online) link on right in blog  Gold heels- JCPenney (recent in store clearance $5!)  Bracelet and earrings- JCPenney (last year) Clutch- Dakota and Dash (online last year)  Go fo...

Sunday Style: In the Navy

Image
Navy is such a beautiful color. It's simple and a neutral and can be dressed up or down. Navy can be worn to formal events instead of black even. It's calming yet commands authority in perhaps a different setting.  Imagine my delight when finding this beauty from   gcgme.com ! The perfect stretchy fabric provides comfort while still staying classy! The waist defines and delights and the hem is the perfect length to show off those stems!  I dressed this Jenai navy blue ruched dress up a bit with leopard heels and some gold and jewels but I also have plans to dress it down with some boots and wear it for fall and winter. Like I said, navy is a neutral and can be worn so many ways!  Check out these pics of me in this wonderful navy dress! Here's the outfit deets: Dress- GCGme.com (online recent) Leopard heels- Target (early this year) Necklace- Purple Peridot (online) Bracelet and earrings- JCPenney (Liz Claiborne brand) Use the code "curvygir...

Sunday Style: Southern Style

Image
It happened again. My friend Łynsie met up with me in Charlotte and we used some of our time together to once again take pictures. I love being out of town and finding new and unique spots to take pictures and I am in love with this church that we found!  You know what else I like? A dress like this that enhances my shape, has a great print, and has pockets! But guess what else! I paid $6 for this dress- brand new! Who says that shopping on a budget means buying clothes you don't love?  I happened upon this dress in JCPenney and immediately loved it. It was marked down on clearance for $25 and I had a $10 off coupon. Even for $15 it was a steal! I got up to the register and it rang up as $16 and then I used my $10 off coupon. Wow! I love finding such great bargains!  This dress has it all and I am so glad I found it. It has such southern charm and is perfect for an afternoon tea, a wedding, a baby shower or even wearing to church.  Here are some pictu...

Style Me April: Days 1-10

Image
Here we are in the middle of April already! Another month is passing by so quickly! I was happy to get into April since I knew it would start to warm up and I could start wearing something other than jeans and boots and sweaters. (While I write this, I must tell you that last night we got 3 inches of snow here in MI!). Here are the first ten days of the challenge in a recap. Day 1- Skirting Around Town This was a really fun outfit for me.   I put some old and new(ish) things together and created this look.   I love the graphic tee and this skirt has always been one of my favorites. I also chose these lace up shoes to go with this look and love it! Day 2- Neutral and a Pop of Color I will tell you that I bought these jeans some time ago and didn’t feel super great about wearing them.   I was participating in a clean eating challenge for a couple of weeks and put these on and they felt great! I even belted them! This pretty coral jacket has been in m...

Style Me March: Days 21-31

Image
The end of March has come and gone and so has this challenge! This has been such a fun month of dressing up and putting on outfits! I am so glad that Hilary Rushford decided to start a new challenge next month too!  Day 21- Ladylike Lovely- I found this pretty dress at Goodwill last year and finally got the opportunity to wear it! I mean what is more ladylike and lovely than a pretty dress, pearls and bows?  Day 22- A Noticeable Necklace- this pretty flower necklace was one of the first things that I ever bought from Groopdealz. I still like the way it looks with outfits and I always receive compliments on it! I'm also doing some major pattern mixing and I hope it's one of the last times I have to wear boots and a vest!  Day 23- Coziness is Happiness- I'm still loving this beaded sweatshirt from Kohls. I love the comfy feel of the sweatshirt and I put a button down shirt and jeans with it for a breakfast out with the family.  Day 24- A...
