That's Mine! (A Monogram Giveaway, too!)

I've seen and heard those quotes about monogramming everything. "If it's not monogrammed, is it even yours?" "If it doesn't move, monogram it". I could go on and on. Monogramming items isn't anything new. I remember as a kid having an off white crew neck sweater with my initials on it. I also had one of those fun wooden handle purses that was pink that had a white monogram on it. I think monograms are fun and really show that the item belongs to me!

I was thrilled to be asked to work with The Pink Monogram and showcase an item from their collection! Talk about hard to pick what I wanted to review!  I decided to go with this quarter-zip pullover for a few different reasons. First, the color- I mean, it's pink! Secondly, I love the design of this so much with the huge front middle pocket that both of my hands can go in and the holes in the sleeves for my thumbs. Thirdly, it's supposedly Spring here in Michigan but we've been having some cold weather lately and this is great to wear while I'm out walking or in the park or at soccer practice!

I took a few pictures while I was out at the park the other day. The sun was actually shining and it wasn't as cold as it was today but I still was glad to have pockets for my hands! I know I usually am "dressed up" to some people but this look to me is perfect for doing the things I mentioned above and I don't feel bad about wearing it either! I feel cute and still put together for the activities that I need to do.

Check out a few pictures from the park:

You know the best part about this? I have teamed up with The Pink Monogram to give one of you lucky ladies the same sweatshirt that I have! Well, it's going to have your initials on it but it will be the same-this one is mine!

Here's how to enter:
Check out the Rafflecopter in the upper right hand corner of the blog. Follow the steps for your chance to win! That's it! I hope you enjoy this as much as I do! It's so comfy and cute and really is the perfect piece of outerwear for the Spring! Make sure you stop by their site and see all of the wonderful things that they have to offer!

Black and White

You know when you're watching a show on television and you see something that someone is wearing and you have to find it? This happened to me a little while ago when I was watching the new TLC show called Love Lust or Run. I was just minding my own business when Stacy showed up wearing this same top!

It's no secret that I loved the show What Not to Wear and the hosts. I visited Clinton Kelly at his new show called The Chew a couple of years ago.

Here's a picture to prove it...(any chance I have to share this picture I do!)

I sometimes am able to catch an episode here and there of The View when Stacy London is a co-host. When I saw she had this new show on TLC, I decided I needed to check it out.

It just so happened that one of the first episodes I saw, she was wearing this outfit. I immediately started looking online to see if I could find where she got it. I couldn't find it right away but was able to find some others that were similar. I continued to do more browsing and finally found that the show has a Pinterest board and I found where she got it. More importantly, it is a budget- friendly option since it is from H&M!

Here's a picture of Stacy's outfit:

I was so glad when I found this top and I recreated almost exactly the same outfit! I made mine look very classic with pearl and nude heels but I love that I could make this edgier with all black and different accessories!

Here's some pictures of today's black and white look:

Black top- H&M (recent)
White button down top- Loft (recent)
Pants- Eloquii (recent)
Nude heels- Loft (last year)
Pearl bracelet- The Limited (earlier this year)
Earrings- ebay (last year)

I know I'm not the only one out there that searches high and low for an item, am I?

March 2015 Week One Recap

Yes, I realize it's the middle of March now. I realize that this thing called life gets in the way sometimes of doing other things like blogging or even cleaning and laundry, etc. You get the picture.

Well, the first week of March I spent a few days in Charlotte, NC for work. Meetings, meetings and more meetings. I'll tell you though- I love going and being with my co-workers and friends! It's just not the same on conference calls or WebEx as it is being live in the room. I enjoyed a nice room, plenty of food and lots of laughter and friendship.

Here's a recap of the few looks that I posted that week:

Monday, March 2- I played along with a Pinterest- inspired outfit for this day. It makes me wonder what we ever did without Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration!

Dress- Target (earlier this year)
Cardigan- New York and Company (old)
Shirt- Old Navy (old)
Necklace- JCrew Factory (old)
Bracelet- The Limited (earlier this year)
Bag- Jordana Paige (online- available through the link in my blog)
Boots- DSW (old)

Tuesday, March 3- A travel day for me and I took the opportunity to wear this outfit that I've been wanting to wear for a while! I also changed into a black skirt and shoes for a dinner when I arrived in Charlotte but didn't get a chance to snap a pic!

Sweater- J Crew (earlier this year)
Shirt- JCrew Factory (old)
Jeans- Eloquii (old)
Boots- DSW (old)

Wednesday, March 4- My first full day of meetings that lasted all day followed by a dinner out with co-workers. You've seen this dress since I just wore it the previous Sunday in my Sunday Style post. I wore exactly the same jacket, shoes and belt that I wore on Sunday and received tons of compliments! By the way, how cool is that tv in the mirror?

Dress- Eloquii (recent)
Jacket- Kohl's (earlier this year)
Belt- New York and Company (old)

Thursday, March 5- Another full day of meetings followed by dinner. My sweet friend and coworker snapped this picture for me while we were on a break. I thought I'd show off this fantastic scuba material suit from Eloquii! I loved this look so much too and it was not only professional, but so comfortable!

Jacket and Pants- Eloquii (recent)
Shirt- Ann Taylor (old)
Shoes- Loft (earlier this year)
Necklace- Stella and Dot (old)

Gap Factory Slim City Pants

I'm reviewing some awesome pants from Gap Factory today!  This new style is called the Slim City fit and these are not only super cute, but super versatile. I thought I would show you a couple of looks that I came up with for both casual and work. You all know I am all about being able to wear my clothes multiple ways!

For work wear, I paired a bright blazer and a patterned top with heels and these navy cropped pants. The look is polished and professional and put-together while the pants are soft and comfortable khaki material! It's great for someone like me who works remotely and doesn't always go into the office!

For a more casual look, I paired the navy Slim City pants with a sweater and oversized white blouse and a scarf and loafers. This look was fun and functional and gave me ideas of how I could wear these pants so many other ways as well!

Today I am also able to offer a discount code so you all can get your own pair of these amazing pants! Use this code: SlimCityCe through 04/01 for 15% off your purchase at any Gap Factory store! Need help finding one? Use this link to find the one closest to you:

Thanks to Gap Factory for sponsoring this post today! It's not hard to review products that you love!

February 2015 Week Four Recap

This week I did a Pinned It, Spinned It style challenge that was all about polka dots. I had a lot of fun shopping in my closet and I even brought out a couple of newer items that hadn't been worn yet. I loved this week's looks so much and even used two of them for my February Favorites!

Monday, Feb 23- No outfit post on this day- my son had his third snow day in a row due to the cold weather we were having.

Tuesday, Feb 24- I wore some of my favorite things on this day. I love this polka dot dress that I got a couple of years ago from New York and Company and  winterized it by adding a mustard blazer and a faux fur stole. I added tights and boots to finish off the look. One of my faves this month!

Jacket- Banana Republic (last year)
Dress- New York and Company (old)
Belt- Loft (old)
Faux fur- Target (last year)
Boots- DSW (old)

Wednesday, Feb 25- I didn't have any polka dot pants to wear but these pants have circles on them so it's close enough! I'm mixing some pearls in with this look and my French lady sweater and blazer with elbow patches. This was a fun combo also!

Jacket- Loft (old)
Sweater- J Crew Factory (old)
Pants- Lands End (last year)
Boots- Old Navy (last year)
Bracelet- The Limited (recent)
Necklace- JCrew Factory (old)

Thursday, Feb 26- This another dress from New York and Company that I purchased at the same time as the polka dot one. It has been a great dress to wear alone and as a jumper like this time.

Dress- New York and Company (old)
Shirt- Joe Fresh via JCPenney (old)
Booties- Kohl's (old)
Belt- Target (old)
Bracelets- Jet Chic Arm Candy (recent online)

Friday, Feb 27- This was my favorite outfit of the month and I'm already wanting to wear it again! I love this sweatshirt and polka dot top and this was the first time I broke them out and wore them. I went with my son's class on a field trip to the Science Center and it was casual and fun for a day walking around.

Sweater and blouse- Loft (recent)
Jeans- Avenue (old)
Boots- DSW (old)
Necklace- Forever 21 (last year)

Well, I can't believe February has come and gone! It was a good month as far as fashion, but I didn't take as many pictures or post as many pictures due to the extreme cold weather. I'm really hoping that March is warmer!

Guest Post: On Size and Style

Hi guys! I'm traveling this week for work so I'm letting my friend Alice write on my blog today. Enjoy!

Hey lovely ladies! I'm Alice Tegtmeier, Personal Stylist, and I'm so happy to be sharing a bit of my heart and message with you. I don't have a blog of my own - I kind of treat my Instagram account that way by posting stylist fashion tips and tricks, inspirational messages and the occasional pic of my kids if they're doing something darling (maybe that's why those posts are "occasional" 😁). I'm @aliteg -, follow me there, if you're so inclined 😉

Can we chat a bit about Size and Style?

All too often we equate looking fabulous with being thin. We think thin girls have it easy wearing whatever they want and finding clothes easily without the dressing room anxiety. We are haunted by the size number on the tag because we wish the number was smaller. We believe personal style and fun with fashion is reserved for the Skinny Minnie's, or for the well endowed, or those with a little more "bass"... I confess that I'm guilty of this poisonous thinking, too.

Can I let you in on a secret?

Your personal style and your size are two separate things. And one should not determine the other.

How do I know?

During my adult life I've been sizes 2 through 12, then back down to a size 6, then, thanks to 3 pregnancies (and the stress of having 3 kids and, well, real life) I landed back at a size 12 (which wouldn't be a terrible thing if I wasn't 5'2" tall). But guess what happened to my personal style? Nothing. Honestly, there wasn't much style happening in my life. I was never taught the basics of style, or how to put a look together. And apparently I don't catch on by looking at pictures in magazines. I also believed the terrible lie that because I wasn't the former, much thinner version of myself, I didn't deserve cute things to wear. But at size 12, I was about to change that.

At 7 months pregnant with child #3, I decided I'd had enough. Enough putting me on the back burner. Enough feeling like I don't deserve cute clothes because I'm not thinner. Enough buying every black, brown, blue or grey long sleeved t-shirts from Target so I could blend in and hide in the background (nothing against my beloved Target - just against my lack of style). So, I decided to do 2 things: buy all new clothes (but NO jeans or t-shirts allowed) and ask a fashionista friend to show me how to mix and match the things in my closet. (Side note: just about all the new clothes were purchased from Target, Gap and Old Navy clearance - some serious scores, people. Never pay full price!) And so began my much improved sense of style. I would no longer stand in front of my closet wondering what to wear only to put on a grey t-shirt and jeans - with nothing else.

So, here I am, size 10 (I'm on a weight loss journey for health reasons), to tell you 3 things I've learned from my style journey.

1. You don't have to wait until you're a smaller size to look and feel fabulous. All it takes is some time in your closet and some creativity with your existing wardrobe. Spend 10-20 minutes the day/night BEFORE you're going to need to wear the outfit (this is KEY) to play with your clothes, try things on and finalize your outfit selection. You'll eliminate the stress and frustration of getting dressed in the morning!

2. Getting up and getting dressed fabulously every day is going to improve more than your outward appearance. Your mood will improve, you will have more energy and confidence. Your self-esteem will rise. And when those things happen, well, anything can happen!

3. Always accessorize! Finish the look of any outfit with accessories. You don't need a lot - one statement necklace can take you a long way. Below are a few outfits without accessories and then styled with accessories.

Pink colorblocked Sweater: Jennifer Lopez for Kohl's
Black Distressed skinnies: Gap
Leopard Kitten Heels: Bandolino (thrift find)
Clutch: Stella & Dot Capri Pouch
Necklace: Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant
Bracelet: Stella & Dot renegade bracelet

Moto Jacket: Target
Cobalt top: Joe Fresh at JCPenney
Zippered Leggings: Gap
Silver flats: Old Navy
Clutch: Stella & Dot Capri Pouch
Necklace: Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant
Bracelet: Stella & Dot renegade bracelet

Hooded Vest: Gap (thrift find)
Mint Sweatshirt: Target
Plaid boyfriend shirt: Gap
Distressed boyfriend skinny jeans: Target
Booties: Target (super old)
Necklace: Stella & Dot Trellis Necklace
Bracelet: Stella & Dot Amelie in gold
Watch: Target

See the difference? The unadorned outfits look like they're missing something. The accessorized looks are polished and finished.

No matter where you are in your style journey, you can always stretch yourself.Whether that be getting up and getting dressed in something that makes you feel pretty, or trying the fashion trend that's a little outside your comfort zone, or just making use of all the clothing in your closet with the tags still on, I'd like to invite you to the #1weekstylechallenge on Instagram. For one full week, push yourself every day to take the next step in your personal style. If you are so inclined to post your challenge photos to Instagram, please tag them with #1weekstylechallenge and tag me @aliteg to share your participation and share the next steps of your style journey with your Instagram community!
