I'm All the Way Up

"Nothing can stop me, I'm all the way up, I'm all the way up..." I like this song by Fat Joe and Remy Ma minus a few of the lyrics...but I digress. It exudes confidence and the amount of wealth that they have. It paints a picture that they have everything and more(!) that they need in life. They're all the way up!

While I love the confidence that this song portrays, the reality is that what is up must come down. But on the flip side, if you're down, it's only going to get better. You can only go up. I love the verse in Psalm 23:4 that says "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."  David is in the valley. He is in the depths of despair. He is crying out but David realizes that things will get better and that he will be taken care of.

Maybe someone needs this reminder as much as I do. I wanted to share my thoughts with you all. It will get better. We go through the fire to become tougher and stronger.

Now in these pictures, I'm on the top of this parking structure thinking how I'm all the way up- up high overlooking the city. I've got a long way to go in my life, just like so many of you, but I'm having fun and being positive while I'm on my way back up.

Isn't this karinadresses dress the best though? How could I not be happy and positive wearing this? I am in love with the pattern and the comfort of this dress while we've been in the 90 degree weather is awesome! The print is so funky- reminds me of the sixties but I love that this style Penelope  has pockets as well!

Sunday Style: Getting Noticed On Your Own Time

Wearing a watch is not something a lot of people do in this day and age. Everyone has a phone and has their nose in it 24/7 and they can get the time from it as  as everything else . No one has a lot of time- everyone is busy running around and getting things done.  I personally love wearing watches. To me it is an extension of accessorizing an outfit. It's another way to show your personal style.

When people ask me "do you have the time?", they will often ask me where I got my watch and will compliment me on the uniqueness of the watch as well. Most people haven't seen wood watches before and ask me a lot of questions about them.

This Jord watch is no exception!  In today's post, I'm wearing the Cora watch which is a little smaller than I normally wear but I love it! I love the daintiness of the watch and the color is stunning! The mother of pearl really is so beautiful and the dark wood compliments it perfectly.

Because I love these watches so much, I was able to partner with Jord and give you the opportunity to win a gift card to use towards your own watch! Here's how it works:

1. Click on the link below:
2. Winner will receive a $75 gift card and everyone else who enters will receive a $20 gift card!

Sunday Style: Black

Last year I started doing a series with colors. I haven"t been posting these for a while. I don't know why, I just haven't. For those of you who are new to this blog or haven't read this series, it is usually talking about a specific color and what it means and/or the significance or importance of this color in my life. Today's post will be no exception although I will focus a little on recent events going on around us as well. I only have two pictures to share of today's outfit, but I'd like the post to be the focal point today.

So here goes...Black. When I type in the word "black" in my browser, it gives me options about the color black but also black lives matter, black people unite, black panther, black mass, black widow spider etc. I'll focus on the color for a minute.

Black is the darkest color and is the result of the absence or complete absorption of light. It is literally a color without a hue. In Europe and North America it is the color associated with mourning, the end, secrets, magic, force, violence, evil and elegance.

I wonder how one color can have so many meanings? If a person wears black, they could be considered to be in mourning or maybe they are depressed? or maybe goth? or maybe they are a bigger person and they are trying to look slimmer? or maybe if it's a dress with heels, they are going for a more elegant Breakfast at Tiffany's look?

Or growing up in the Baptist church, there was a song that went something like this "My heart was black with sin until the savior came in"... Secrets. Sin. Deceit. Darkness. Evil. Something being hidden. Now the color is associated with something completely different.

Black. The word "black" is also used to describe a person's color or someone whose skin is darker. We hear the words "Black Lives Matter" all the time now. Some people would say "All Lives Matter" but I disagree. How can all lives matter when black lives don't? While I am not here to be politically correct, or incorrect for that matter, I am here to share my feelings and my take on the topic. Coming from a so-called "white" perspective, should I love someone less because of the color of their skin? Do we not all bleed the same? Are we not all human beings?  I am deeply saddened by all of the tragic events that are happening around us. This is 2016. Wake up! How can a progressive country such as ours still be fighting for the rights of black people?

Why do I have to explain to my son about how black males are losing their lives because of the color of their skin? What makes a black man so much more dangerous than a white man? Why do we see a child being killed because he was black but white children get a slap on the wrist? Ridiculous. I watched a recent video and a black man was saying that he had to teach his children to respond politely and correctly to police to avoid any misunderstandings. To be clear, all children and all grown adults no matter what color you are should be responding appropriately to authority. The man went on to say that the goal wasn't to not get arrested but it was to make it home at the end of the day. Wow. Heartbreaking.

It is sad to me that this is the world that we live in today. We live in a society that definitely judges a book by its cover. It seems like it used to be more based on physical appearance like weight or hairstyle or clothing. Those were the days.

So many people are coming out and giving their opinions and sharing their two cents. I've been quiet long enough. I live and work in an area that has black people all around me. People close to me are black. Black lives do matter.

Black. Black is also associated with elegance. Coco Chanel published a drawing of a simple black dress in Vogue magazine back in 1926. She and other designers contributed to the trend of the LBD or Little Black Dress. Women everywhere have one in their closets. It's a necessity in my opinion. It can be dressed up or down and can be accessorized so many different ways.

Here's a little black look that is something different for me. It's a cropped top with tulle in the front and back all along the bottom. I paired it with black pleather pants and heels and have my beautiful leopard clutch.

Top- Nissy's Closet Tales (online recent- BONUS: use the code CGOTR for 15% off your $50+ order!)

Black. Classy, sophisticated, elegant.
Black. Evil, secretive, deceitful.
How we look at something or someone can change the world.

I hope you enjoyed today's post. I challenge you to look around you with open eyes and view the world differently.

Floral Fantasy

Sweet sweet fantasy baby when I close by eyes you come and you take me... go ahead and sing the Mariah Carey song-you know you want to! When I came up with the title to this blog post, that was all I kept thinking about.

Seriously though, this dress is simply a fantasy. I love everything about it! The shape of it and the length of it and the way it is so long and flowy! The floral pattern on the dress makes it so feminine yet gives off a sexy and romantic vibe.

I am thrilled to be working with Nissy's Closet Tales! This is an online boutique for curvy girls like myself and offers us the opportunity to purchase affordable, trendy and uniquely gorgeous pieces. There is so much to choose from and I'll be showing some other looks from here as well in the near future!

In the meantime, check out some pics of this gorgeous dress:
