Sunday Style: Holiday Day to Night

I thought I'd focus on some fun holiday outfits for the next few weeks. You know, something that you can wear out to the work holiday party or that friend's get-together or maybe even the Christmas Eve service at church.

For today's look, I decided to find something in my closet that I could take from day to night. Let's say you had to work but we're going out afterwards and wouldn't have time to change. I think pink is such a fun color and can really look great at the holidays too!

I took this short sleeve dress that I actually wore for Easter this year and put a fun tweed moto jacket over top. I am wearing some polka dot tights that I got last year and some black booties from the Altuzarra for Target line. I think this is a great look to wear to work and requires very little to make it look great for a holiday gathering after work.

For the night look, take off the stuffy tweed jacket and you're ready for some fun! I added sparkly accessories and might even change to some heels if I were really going out or maybe even pack some flats if my feet got tired from walking or dancing.

Dress- Banana Republic (spring this year)
Jacket- Gap (last year)
Necklace- Sassy Steals (last year)
Booties- Target (Altuzarra for Target this year)
Clutch- Social Monograms (last year)

This was a lot of fun to create these looks and just goes to show you that you can wear clothes in your closet so many different ways!

Hope you're all having a fantastic holiday weekend! Anyone shopping Cyber Monday tomorrow? I plan on seeing if I can find some good deals! Have a great Sunday!

November 2014 Week Three Recap

This past week went by so slowly yet looking back, it seems like it flew by. It's hard to believe this week we will be celebrating Thanksgiving with our families and starting our Christmas shopping! Enjoy this recap from last week!

Monday- I decided to wear a couple of my favorite things together- the llama sweater from J Crew last year and this thrifted Land's End skirt- I am loving the end result!

Tuesday- It was a cobalt jeans kind of day and I mixed prints again with this orange and white gingham shirt and this fair isle sweater (of sorts)

Wednesday- no outfit pics for this day- I tried to capture it on my timer but it was snowing and didn't turn out!

Thursday- Yellow pants! I got these last year from Land's End and love them! I didn't realize what I was missing until I got them! Well that might be a little dramatic but you know, they are fun! I am also still crushing on this gray sweater from Loft last year. It was the perfect sweater last year and is still the perfect sweater this year! Also, notice I am totally popping my collar...

Friday- I decided to wear this striped Amelia dress from LuLaRoe again but this time, I belted it and wore a cardigan over it. I am still loving this dress so much!

I hope you all are off to a great start in your week! It's a short work week for me as I'll be off on Thursday and Friday! Enjoy your time with family and friends this week!

It's Just A Season

We just saw him last month at my brother in law's wedding. He was his usual self cracking jokes and being ornery.  He wasn't feeling great then but it wasn't about him, it was about the wedding. He left to go home to Arizona a couple of days later and little did we know it would be the last time we spoke to him.

This weekend we remembered my husband's grandfather who passed away. It's hard losing a loved one in general but especially during the holiday season.

As I sat in the funeral mass yesterday, I listened to the message that the priest brought. He said It is just a season that we don't see our loved ones. Much like in the winter, things have to die and then come back in the spring. We will have a season of loss and grieving but we will have those memories close to us that help us grow and to remember him. While a loss is not something that you ever fully recover from, it does get better over time.

Now we are in the season of Thanks and Giving. It doesn't stop with Thanksgiving, it continues through Christmas as we see service projects of sponsoring families and children in need, feeding the homeless and singing Christmas carols to the shut-ins.

This season can be the most difficult for those who have lost loved ones. While we recently had a loss in our family, I still think about the loved ones that have gone on before us like my mom did eleven years ago this December. I can tell you that it is a season but our lives do continue to go on and we do eventually become used to the loss.

It may be just a season but this season is terribly hard for a lot of us. Remember to look around you and offer people encouragement this season. Remember to offer a helping hand or even just lend an ear to those who might want to talk or reminisce about the past. One day you will find that it is your season and you are the one in need.

Thanks for reading and following along with me.

November 2014 Week Two Recap

This past week was a roller coaster of weather. It was high in the sixties and then low in the twenties. I think we may have seen the last of fall with the snow that moved in on Sunday night.

I took Monday off of work because the bank was closed on Tuesday for Veterans Day. I wanted to do a closet clean out and switch out all of the summer stuff to fall and winter. I also found a ton of stuff that I will be posting on Poshmark! I didn't post any outfits on these two days because I decided to take a break from social media and outfit posting. Don't worry- I still looked cute for my lunch and IKEA date with the hubs!

Wednesday- I played along with the Pinned It, Spinned It challenge and copied a layered look. It was perfect for the changing temps.

Thursday- Ooh La La this is a fun sweater! I wore my favorite Old Navy items ie everything I get from Old Navy...these houndstooth pants are so fun and I got these boots on clearance from Target!

Friday- This was a fun day with one of my favorite combos- green and fur. I really loved the colors in this outfit!

Saturday- I call this my typical Saturday uniform because on the weekend I usually wear a shirt, jeans and sweater- maybe a vest if it's cold enough.

Sunday- I watched the Anne of Green Gables movies with a friend and sat on the couch all day. It was awesome! I did post about this gorgeous party dress from eShakti and reviewed it on the blog in my latest Sunday Style post.

Hope your week is off to a great start! Thanks for reading and following along with me!

Sunday Style: Ladylike in eShakti

I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this dress! I was over the moon excited when eShakti contacted me and asked me to review a product for them! I decided to look for a holiday dress since I will be going to multiple holiday functions.

I found this dress and decided to change it up a little and customize it to meet my needs. I chose to keep the neckline the same but I added a cap sleeve instead of sleeveless and I made it knee-length. It was so easy! All I had to do was send in my measurements and then decide if I wanted any customization and they did the rest!

I received a text the day before letting me know I had a package being delivered the next day and then I waited patiently (who am I kidding? I was not patient at all!) for the delivery man to arrive.

I received the package and immediately had to put it on. This dress was made for me! I love everything about it! The pockets (yes, I said pockets!), the fit, the design, the fabric- there is nothing that I don't love about it!

I am in love with this dress but the company is phenomenal. Everything was so easy and well-organized! eShakti sells clothing items for sizes 0-36 and offers customization for each piece. You can buy something "off the rack" as well or already pre-made but I loved the idea that something was made just for me.

Here are the pics of this beautiful party dress that I cannot wait to wear!

Dress- eShakti (recent)
Shoes- Kohls (last year)
Sequin bag- Poshmark
Pearl Bracelet- LOFT (summer)
Bangles- Lia Sophia (old)
Necklace- Groopdealz (last year)

Want to check out eShakti for yourself? You're in luck! I've got a special coupon code just for my readers and followers for 10% off your order when you use the code CURVYGIRLONTHERUN. See below for all of the details of this offer:

All About Those Boots

I get a lot of questions about where I get my boots. I've had the same pair of riding boots from Bandolino for a few years. These boots have been everywhere- California, Vegas, Texas- just to name a few. When I purchased them from DSW, I remembered thinking they were a little expensive but I have gotten my wear out of these for sure!

I have a few pairs of boots now but I don't wear any of them as much as that pair just because they go with everything and are so comfortable. I have two pairs of Bare Traps brand that I also purchased from DSW. They are the same pair-one in black and one in gray. When you find what you like, buy one in every color!

Here are some basic tips for finding a pair of boots that fit your calves:

1) Start by measuring the largest part of your calf and see how many inches it is.

2) When searching online (I find there is a better selection online usually than in stores), start by typing in "wide calf boots" and look for the measurements in the description so you can see what the shaft circumference of the boot measures. This will allow you to use your measurement to see if they will fit. There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to zip or pull up your boot because it is too small!

3) Look for materials that might have more stretch or "give" to them. Some boots will have a stretchy panel or a quilted look or something that will be more flexible and not as tight on your calf.

4) Don't be afraid to look everywhere for boots! Even if you are not plus size, I would still check plus size stores for boots because generally they offer more of a selection of wide calf and wide widths. Remember if you look in store, sometimes they don't have the wide calf there but might offer it online.

5) If you're on a budget like most of us, make sure to sign up for emails to alert you to special deals or sales. Sign up for DSW rewards and get special days when you will get bonus points and always free shipping. There are all kinds of deals to be had- just be patient and wait for a great sale! There will be tons of special promos starting here soon since we are getting into the holiday season. You'll find merchants offering all kinds of deals starting especially the week of Thanksgiving.

Here are some of my picks that I found for wide calf boots- Bonus! All are under $100 and are available online!

1) DSW- Bandolino Coppa Wide Calf Riding Boots-$100

2) Avenue- Antalya Tall Boots- $50

3) Lane Bryant- Black Quilted Riding Boots- $90

4) DSW- Unisa Tangled Wide Calf Riding Boots- $70

5) DSW- Bare Traps Sigourney Wide Calf Riding Boots- $70

6) Target- Journee Collection Wide Calf Slouchy Round Toe Boots- $75

Good luck in your boot shopping! Let me know if you find a great new pair!

November 2014 Week One Recap

I got used to doing style challenges and recapping weekly so I thought I would continue on with it. I haven't really been participating in a lot of style challenges this month because I want to wear other things and sometimes I just don't always want to do what everyone else is doing. That is the definition of style though- being yourself and being fashionable while not necessarily doing what everyone else does. I also got the opportunity to review a new to me company, LuLaRoe, and wear a couple of those looks. It was a great week!

Monday- 11/3- I did do one style challenge, Pinned It Spinned, and copied this outfit by my friend @emilyagosta. I liked the way this outfit looked but it was a little warmer so I decided to make it a little more "springy" by wearing brighter colors. I also tried out a new pair of shoes by The Lahi and really liked the way they brightened up my outfit!

Tuesday- 11/4- Voting day! I wore this fun initial sweater over a dress. It got cold so I ended up throwing a jean jacket on over top. I have to admit that I like the way it turned out!

Wednesday- 11/5- I tried this LuLaRoe Cassie pencil skirt and wore it layered up with a long sleeve shirt and sweater. I liked the tights and booties with it too. It was a comfy and cozy outfit!

Thursday- 11/6- I wore this LuLaRoe Amelia dress and was so happy with it! I loved the pop of pink with the heels and it was just one of the many ways that I will be able to wear this dress!

Friday- 11/7- oh Friday! My son usually takes my pictures for me but he was off of school on this day and he and my husband were gone all day. I tried my timer on my phone for the first time. I don't think the quality of this picture is that great but I was happy that I managed to get the whole thing in the picture!

Saturday-11/8- It's the weekend! I wore this fun hedgehog sweater over a plaid shirt with jeans and put my polka dot vest over top. This is a classic example of an outfit I will wear all fall and winter!

Sunday- 11/9- I wore this pretty lace dress a different way with a faux leather jacket and booties. Read all about it in the latest Sunday Style post.

This last week was a lot of fun getting dressed up and trying new combinations! Hope you all are off to a great start of your week! I'm off for four days and getting a lot of stuff done around the house.

Thanks for reading and following along with me!

Sunday Style: Totes Adorbs

I remember the first time I ever heard the phrase "Totes Adorbs". It was on What Not to Wear uttered by Stacy London. In retrospect, she was just abbreviating "totally adorable" but hey, it also works well for today's post!

Today I am featuring a tote from Under One Sky  (available online from Target) along with my outfit. This is actually a reversible tote and is great for this season since it is black and gray. It is truly totes adorbs.

I am wearing this great dress from Loft with some tights and booties. This dress is great because it can be dressed up or down depending on your mood or the occasion. Remember I wore this to my brother in law's wedding last month with nude heels and pearls. You can read more about it in the post called "Fall In Love". I'm planning on wearing it again with maybe a cardigan or jean jacket over it and some boots.

I've put a quilted black faux leather coat on over top of it since it's chilly out. I could also layer a shirt under it or a cardigan over it. This dress has a great silhouette and is was reasonably priced since I got it during a 50% off sale. I've also done a sparkly statement necklace and a lot of bangles for more bling.

I've got the tote with it today in black. Confession: I've been carrying this tote non-stop since I received it! It has a little pouch in it as well that is great for holding my powder compact and lipstick.

Want to hear some great news? I'm giving away another of these fab totes to one of you! I've got a rafflecopter thingamajig guy on the bottom of this post which gives you a few different ways to earn entries. I'll pick one randomly and will announce it in the Sunday Style post on November 23. That's two weeks to enter to win this great tote!

Style Spotlight: LuLaRoe

I am so excited to share a couple of looks today from Lularoe! This is a company that I wasn't as familiar with but now I am glad I am! I was asked by my pal Amy from LuLaRoe Tooele County if I would share a couple of looks and, of course, I said yes!

Spoiler Alert!! Keep reading because there's a giveaway that you won't want to miss! She's also offering free shipping on using the code AMYJUHASZ!

First up is this black and white striped dress. I am in love with the way it looks and feels to say the least! This is the Amelia dress- it is fit and flare style and has pockets. Bonus! This basic dress is anything but basic! It can be dressed up or down and I love the design of it!

I paired the dress here with some pink heels and a leopard clutch. It's colder here now so I'll put a black jacket over top of it too for some extra warmth. I also did a statement necklace for some sparkle but I also am envisioning this with a scarf and some flats when it warms up. Another idea for this dress would be more casual with a cardigan or a jean jacket and some riding boots. The possibilities are endless!

The second look is wearing this super cute pencil skirt called the Cassie. This skirt is so comfortable and has a yoga style waistband so there is no tightness around the stomach. This skirt is a navy print so I paired a navy sweater over it and a shirt under. I am also wearing some booties with this look today but I can see it dressed up with a blazer and heels or dressed down with a shirt and flats. This is another great piece that I will be able to mix and match!

This company was started by a single mom of seven children who was looking for a way to make ends meet. I am all about supporting woman-owned businesses! LuLaRoe carries a variety of girls and ladies dresses, skirts and leggings. So comfy! They are sold by independent consultants of the company who have parties in people's homes or online.

Since it is Cassie Skirt Week over at LuLaRoe this week, Amy and I are giving you all a chance to win a Cassie pencil skirt of your choice! Follow the prompts in the rafflecopter thingy below for different ways to earn entries! All entries will be verified. This contest will be available for one week so get started now for your chance to win!

ThaƄks for reading and following along with me!
