Sunday Style: Floral Flounce

Put some pep in your step and some bounce in your flounce....well, I don't know about that last part but this dress definitely puts some pep in your step! This hi-lo flounce dress gives the illusion of my favorite fit and flare style when belted. I thought it looked good with a belt and jacket and some fun shoes. I'm thinking I'll even take this with me this week to wear when I'm in Charlotte since I like this so much!

Here are a few pictures of today's look with the hi-lo floral flounce dress:

Dress- Eloquii (recent)
Jacket- Kohl's (last year)
Belt- New York and Company (old)
Shoes- Target (last year)
Clutch- Express (last year)

I'm loving this fabric from Eloquii recently and the styles and prints just keep getting better and better! I'm looking forward to more fun things from them for spring!

Hope you're all having a great weekend! Thanks for reading and following along with me!

March 2015 Book Club Selection

It's here! The next book that is on tap for our book club! Courtney picked this one and I'm excited to read it! I've got a trip out of town next week so I'm looking forward to some quiet time and reading. I just got it in the mail but it is available at some libraries. I purchased it from Target online but I know that Amazon and Barnes and Noble also carry it.

I don't know a lot about this book but I do know a movie was made about it. I have read mixed reviews so I am looking forward to reading it and reviewing it on my own.

Switching gears: did you read last month's book "The Summer Kitchen"? What did you think about it? I thought it was a good book and I loved the volunteer work and the story that went along with it. I also liked that it was told from two points of view. I think that element adds interest to a story when we see it through more than one person's eyes. We all said that we enjoyed the book when we met last week for Book Club. Good pick, Rebekah!

Let me know if you've read this month's pick or if you're planning to read it. Don't spoil it here in the comments though for us!

Happy Reading! Thanks for reading and following along with me!

Polka Dots and a Cuff Giveaway!

I'm so tired of wearing jeans and sweaters and boots! It's been so cold that I feel like I wear the same outfit everyday but in different colors!

Not today though! I decided to change it up and wear one of my favorite dresses but winterize it wearing a jacket, boots and tights. I'm playing along with Pinned It, Spinned It today and I'm loving this combo!

Dress- Eva Mendes for New York and Company (old)
Jacket- Banana Republic (last fall)
Faux fur and belt- Target (last year)
Boots- DSW (old)

Notice my cuff bracelet? You guys! I'm giving one away on the blog! Right here! I am loving this company called Trades of Hope that I was just introduced to by a compassionate entrepreneur, Pam Arnett. This bracelet is just one of the many accessories and items that are available for purchase.

Trades of Hope is a company that was started in 2010 to empower and give jobs to women around the world. Poverty is the root of a lot of problems. Slavery and sex trafficking happen all over the world. Mothers are forced to give up their children to orphanages while other parents watch their children die from starvation or sickness. At Trades of Hope, the founders and entrepreneurs work to change lives for the better. They look to empower women to be the heroes of their own stories. By purchasing items from this company, you help to eradicate poverty around the world. Such a great cause and there are so many awesome things available for purchase!

So, I decided to team up with Pam and give one of you a bracelet like mine! Do the rafflecopter thingy at the side of the post - you get lots of chances to win!

I'm getting caught up with my weekly outfit recap posts today instead of posting a new Sunday Style post. I'm also off relaxing at the spa getting a massage and facial... It's been a busy couple of weeks for me at work so I tend to fall behind on the blog when that happens. Because I have more work, I tend to have other things to keep me busy after work as well.

I had a good week of outfits and more importantly, this was the week that I had some nasty words said to me and had some wonderful and kind words spoken to me. I really appreciate all of the love and support that you all have given me!

February 2015 Week One Recap Way too cold to go outside and do anything so I thought I'd play catch up on outfits. You can see by all of the snow in my pictures that it's been cold here lately. I find I am not as creative during the winter since I have to bundle up to go anywhere. It's also hard to get out and get good pictures since the temperatures are so low. I am still getting dressed everyday, I may just not get a picture to document it!

Monday, Feb 2- Snow Day! No outfit post on this day.

Tuesday, Feb 3-  Black and white and mint for back to work on Tuesday! Loving these pixie pants with the faux fur vest! My bag says "It's okay to stare"....

Sweater and pants- Old Navy (last year)
Faux fur vest- Kohls (old)

Boots- Sam and Libby for Target (old)

Sunday Style: DIY Outfit Planning

It's so cold out that I decided to forget about a regular Sunday post and share another fun and easy DIY I did today!

Outfit planning! Do you do it? Love it? Hate it? I'll admit that since I work from home, I am a little spoiled and can decide what to wear that morning or even throughout the day. There's no rush unless if I have to be somewhere or if I am going out of town.

I decided though to try outfit planning this week and I am super happy with the results and ready to get this week started!

I looked first at the days of the week and if I had anything special going on. Next, I looked at style challenges on Instagram to see if I wanted to participate at all. I decided I could wear something every day that fit into a challenge. Obstacle one! For me that's the hardest part is looking in the closet and seeing what goes with what or if I can participate.

I went through my closet and found outfits for the week. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be! I purchased a hanging rack at Bed Bath and Beyond for $20 and take 20% off of that.

Next, I found some paper, floral decorations and twine and made myself a tag for each day. It was relatively easy- just take a tag and write the day on it if you don't feel creative.

I love this rack because there's room to put shoes and purses on the bottom and it even expands! You'll see I also put a pair of heels on the top to remind me to wear sparkles that day!

I have a room downstairs that is my closet as well as a craft room. You'll see my painting called Rainy Seatte hanging on the wall. This room (when it's clean and neat) makes me happy! You don't have to have a huge house or walk in closet to plan ahead.

Here are some pictures of my outfits and my tags:

Any tips for the rest of us who do outfit planning or want to be more organized?

I hope you're all staying warm wherever you are today! Thanks for reading and following along with me!

One Word

What's that one word that people can say to you or can call you that would hurt?  You know, that one word that people say and it hurts you to the core or it reminds you of being hurt in the past or perhaps who you used to be? We've all got that one word. For me, it's always been the word "fat". I think people associate larger people with being lazy or perhaps ignorant or even uneducated. I would say none of these words describe me yet I still find the word "fat" to be the one word that gets to me.

Growing up, I was always bigger than other kids. I've never been a smaller size and I used to wish that I was. I thought people would like me if I were different, smaller or taller, etc. It wasn't until I was in my thirties that I finally started to feel content with who I was and love the shape I have. We are all unique- how boring would it be if we were all the same? I have this conversation with my son a lot and remind him of how we are each special and individually made. I always had self confidence issues growing up and I don't want him to go through what I did. I even did a post last year that was published on The Awkward Years blog that talks about this very issue. I'll even show you all the picture that I used when telling my story.

Why this post today? Yesterday, I received very hurtful and rude words from some random person on Instagram. I don't know why people think they can hide behind their keyboard or phone and write nasty things about people but sadly, they do. I read what that person wrote and at first, I thought it was a joke or something but then I couldn't believe my eyes. Someone who doesn't even know me wrote such nasty things and then is hiding behind a private profile where no one can even see their pictures!

I took a screenshot and then made a picture and commented on the picture on my Instagram profile- I don't know why- I was mad probably more than anything else. I wanted people to see that this creeper out there was rude. I don't normally broadcast or publicize things that people write but for some reason, this time I did. I wasn't asking for sympathy and I wasn't looking for anything other than to show people how nasty someone was.

What happened next shocked me.

One word. Kindness. Respect. Encouragement. Love. Compliments. Compassion. I could go on. I was humbly surprised by the outpouring of love that I received. People who really don't know me in real life but are followers on Instagram started commenting. Hundreds of comments I received from so many people who wanted to lift me up. I received texts and emails and direct messages. What could have brought me to tears and made me so upset turned into an opportunity for others to share one word with me.

I know that being on Instagram and writing a blog puts myself out there. I expect to get negative comments at times but I think I am still shocked when someone spews such hatred out on social media. I realize that every outfit that I post might not be someone's favorite. I don't expect hundreds of likes or comments every day but I do try my best to look put together and give people ideas of how they can dress themselves too.

I used this as an opportunity to share with my son the dangers of cyber bullying. He is all too familiar with bullying in real life, but this was a first for him to see how mean that people can be on the Internet. He read it and shook his head that someone would write that about me.

I've said this all along that my goal is to show women how to dress for the bodies that they have and to be proud of who they are. I share my outfits and tips with everyone because it took me so long to feel good about myself and I want others to feel confidence that it took me years to find. I don't do this for attention or to make money. I do this because I truly want to be an example and a role model to others.

I am so humbled by the outpouring of love that I received. I cannot thank each person individually for the love and support that I received. Sometimes I feel like I could quit, but judging by the comments I received yesterday, I am making a difference and that is what I want.

So Jane, I pray for you that you will find peace and love and contentment like I have found in my life. But I have to thank you for your remarks because you made my one word that hurts me the most turn into thousands of beautiful encouraging words that lifted me up. Your intent to hurt me turned into an opportunity for others to help me.

Sometimes all it takes is one word. We never know what saying something to someone will do to them. Will it build them up so they can accomplish even greater things or it will tear them down and send them into a spiral? Make your one word a positive one instead of a negative one and see what a difference that you can make in someone else's life.

Do me a favor and share this post- I would love to see it all over social media so others can learn from this. I have never asked for this before but if you read this, please find a way to share it so that people can remember that all it take is one word. Kindness.

Thanks for reading and following along with me!

Sunday Style: Valentine's Style

Are you big into Valentine's Day? I'm not really but I do enjoy the cute little accents like kisses and hearts that are widespread during this timeframe. I decided to use a couple of cute accessories with this striped dress that I bought a while back to make a fun Sunday Style post!

This dress from Eloquii was love at first sight. I showed it to my husband and he said "you should get that". So I did! It thought it would go perfectly with these red bow heels and then decided to do a theme post. That's usually the way my outfits end up to be outfits is that I think about one thing and it leads to another and so on and so on.

Anyways, it's a little chilly here still to wear sleeveless which is what this dress is, so I put a black moto jacket over it for some extra warmth. The sun was out yesterday when I took these pictures so I also look like I'm squinting in all of the pics...

This dress is great as a dress but I am also thinking I will wear a sweater or something over it to make it work as a skirt too! The material is great and soft and it has pockets so that's a plus! I'm also thinking I will pair a pale jacket or sweater over it as well to change the look of the dress. I love finding something like this that will be functional and timeless for years to come.

I like the way this outfit worked out! Just a few accents of Valentine's Day here and there is enough for me!

Dress- Eloquii (last year)
Jacket- Kohl's (recent)
Clutch- Poshmark
Shoes- Just Fab (online- recent)
Bangles- Jet Chic Arm Candy

Oh wait! There's more! Notice these fun bangle bracelets that I'm wearing? I've teamed up with Jet Chic Arm Candy and a couple other friends to offer one of you a stack of these and some fun stuff so you can treat yo self too this Valentine's Day! Make sure you enter to win here on the blog by doing these things on the rafflecopter thingy at the top of the blog! I'll be running this over on Instagram as well so stop by there for other chances to win! The contest will only be for 48 hours so you'll have to hurry and enter! Open to US and Canada. Good luck!

Here's a picture of the prize!

Hope you've all had a great weekend! Thanks for reading and following along with me!
