Sunday Style: Monochromatic Sunday

Today's Joyful June Style challenge prompt is Feeling Fruity. I am still loving this Loft golden foil pineapple tee so I decided to take it out for a spin again today. Why not pair it with something different than what I would normally wear? That's when I thought of wearing monochromatic color today.

I paired the tee with these light brown patterned pants from Kohls last year and went with the gold flats. I have a hard time wearing such a neutral color with nothing bright so I decided to wear some color (even though more muted colors) with the outfit. I'm still loving my Anthropolgie inspired bead necklace from Groopdealz and, of course, the wire bangles are so fun and bring in more color!

I'm thinking I love the end result and don't know why I didn't think of wearing these all together before! That's the beauty of these style challenges is that you have a theme of things basically to look for in your closet and then if you're like me, you end up with an outfit that you wouldn't have thought to wear before!

Here are a few pictures of today's outfit:

Like my tee? I got it at the Loft Outlet in the spring but I found a look a like at Kohls today and it's on sale for only $9.99 today! That's half off! Great deal!

Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Jumpin' July Style Challenge

The last couple of months have been so fun while hosting these style challenges on Instagram! I have to admit that I almost didn't do one this month but I love having a challenge that helps me get dressed every day. It is helping me through the #noshopsummer that I am doing with some of my IG friends. (I'll be posting an update for May and June for 2014 Closet Remix Challenge next month).

I love hosting these and seeing all of the looks that everyone comes up with! The challenges are meant to be interpreted however you would like. They are suggestions to help you work with what you already have and/or wear things differently. I know it is helping me work through the clothes in my closet and I still find myself wearing some items with tags on them that I didn't realize that I had!

So, without further ado, here's the Jumpin' July Style challenge:

There are no rules when participating in this challenge. Wear what you have or borrow, etc. Interpret the challenge however you want on each day!

Now here's where it gets fun! I do a weekly recap on the blog of the style challenge with my outfits. I will feature at least one look every day on the blog with mine as well! You must be following me on Instagram to have the opportunity to be featured. I would love it to be reposted to your IG as well so your friends can participate with us!

That's it! Hopefully you all will read through the challenge and have fun with us this coming month! Make sure you use the hashtag #jumpinjulystyle so your looks are featured in our group!

I look forward to seeing all of your outfits in July!

Forty Before Forty: The Color Run

Another item crossed off my list! This was an event that I have seen other people do and always thought this would be fun! Fast forward to earlier this year and I saw a Living Social deal for a discounted entry to the race. I think I ended up saving about $10 off the regular price.

Anyways, I wanted to enter this race but thought it would be a lot more fun with friends. I asked around and some people were either busy, not interested or just didn't want to run. I was mentioning it to my sister in law and she said she would like to do it. She invited a friend of hers as well and then there were three!

I didn't practice for this race like I did for the 5K I did last year. I read online that it was not a timed race and that walkers were welcomed. (That was an understatement.) I think it is meant to just be fun and get people motivated to exercise.

We showed up for the race wearing all white shirts like we were told on the website. We had to park a ways away and we had to stand in line to get our registration packet. We had to walk back to the car with our stuff and then walk back to the starting line. When it was time for the race to start, there were so many people lined up that it was ridiculous! The race started at 8:00 and I think it was almost 9:00 before we even started (not to mention the time we had to wait for a train...).

Here's a few pictures of the start of the race:

Yes, I am rocking the sweatband:

Look at all of the people! If you look closely in the second picture, you can see they go waaaaayyy back!

Here we all are waiting on the train:

As we moved through the race course, we were painted with different colors. Every so often there was a different color that was sprayed. I found that we had to ask or really dance around in some of the colors and you didn't get a lot of it.

Here's some pictures throughout the race:

Purple was first!

Then blue...

Then pink...

Then yellow...

And then we finished! This was the sight as we went through the finish line! Very cool to have confetti thrown on you as you ran through.  It was my own personal parade!

After the race was finished, we waited in line to have pictures taken. I got the email that they were available and looked online. I won't be buying any of those as I was happy with all of the pictures we took ourselves! We received a KIND bar ( which was great!) and plenty of water. Then we headed over to the celebration!

Every few minutes, they announced it was time to throw your color packets. It was so fun to see all of the colors in the air and dance to the music!

We ended up with tons of color and had tons of fun!

This was such a lot of fun! People have asked me if I would do it again and I think I would! It was a laid back race and was fun getting painted!

Have you ever done a Color Run or anything like this? I know they are touring the country! I'd encourage you to check it out!

Thanks for reading and following along with me! You never know what adventures I will try next!

Joyful June Style: Days 16-22

This past week's themes were so much fun! I had a blast dressing up each day and seeing all of your outfits as well!

Day 16- Sassy in Stripes- I took the opportunity this day to do some pattern mixing and wear my new floral skirt with an older striped tee. I sent a pair of shoes back and got a credit so I used some of the money to buy the skirt on sale. I saw a few other gorgeous ladies with the skirt and the dress in this pattern and loved it so I decided to give it a try when I saw it pop back in my size!

I saw lots of pattern mixing on this day! I chose to feature my IRL (in real life) friend @craftymama77 for this day. I love how she has gotten so bold and is having fun with fashion and this style challenge!

Day 17- Inspired by Carrie Bradshaw- This was a tie for my favorite day! I didn't religiously watch and Sex and the City when it was on, but I do like the show and the movies. Besides, she has impeccable style and who else can get away with wearing what she does?!

I saw lots of tulle skirts, top knots and pearls for this day from all of you! I chose to feature @tayloradaly for her interpretation of this day. I love the full skirt and flower belt and she just looks like she is having fun!

Day 18- Golden Girl(s)- This was my other favorite day!  I kind of wanted to dress in eighties attire for this day because some of their outfits were so good! Blanche was always my favorite! I opted for the lemon dress though as I had big plans for tea that day. Read all about it in my latest Sunday Style post!

When I thought of the Golden Girls theme, I wasn't sure if people would dress up like them or if they would wear shades of gold or yellow. My friend @jennysanzo chose a beautiful gold top and a necklace that belonged to her great grandmother. Such a cute look!

P.S. Sometimes Jenny is my style twin- check out this look from her too!

Day 19- Patterned Printed Pants- I chose to wear my fabulous watercolor print pants from Lands End this day with a bright tee. I love these pants so much! They are so comfortable and so fun!

I was loving all of the printed and patterned pants that I saw on this day! I chose to feature @jplemm1118 because I loved the pants with the white shirt and sandals. Such a simple yet nice look for the summertime! And what a great print!

Day 20- Sailing Away- I thought what more could be nautical than my sailor skirt? I loved this skirt when I bought it years ago at Banana Republic and still do! I added a fun sailboat tee from Lands End, some striped wedges and a coral bead necklace. This outfit was fun and functional for a telepresence meeting with a buddy in London.

I chose to feature @obywest20 for this day. Her nautical colors outfit was great and I have serious envy of her shoes! She always looks like she is having so much fun while posing for her pictures!

Day 21- Tropical Paradise- The only thing tropical about my outfit this day was the color of the paint and the humidity! This was the day of the Color Run ( more to come on the blog later) so I didn't post an outfit picture on this day.

I chose to feature two ladies on this day: @drcorey and @happygal1976. I love the tropical vibes in their outfits and they both looked very fabulous!

Day 22- Floral Frenzy- Remember how I said I loved my Lands End floral pants? It seems like whenever I wear the pants I end up wearing the tee soon after. My family and I enjoyed a beautiful Sunday in Ann Arbor and I was able to capture this fun picture while there. These tees are so comfy and this virtually goes with any color that you have!

I love @ellenst4 's collage for this day! She has the most beautiful colors in her pictures and her outfit is so pretty!

That's this past week's challenges! Thanks to all of you who have been participating! It's been a lot of fun seeing all of your outfits and gaining inspiration!

Want a chance to be featured? Make sure you are following me on Instagram and use the hashtag #joyfuljunestyle to have your looks in the style challenge group. Remember if you are private, I cannot see your pictures and that's okay! You can still play along with us!

I can't wait to see what you all come up with this week! July starts a new challenge and you can find the full challenge under the hashtag #jumpinjulystyle or on my page.

Thanks for reading and following along with me!

Sunday Style: High Tea with Lemon

This week I was able to cross another item off of my Forty Before Forty list and that was have high tea in a tearoom. My husband said that we actually had tea before on Mackinac Island but I didn't remember that. I figured it would have been about 9 or 10 years ago that he was talking about. I put this on my list because I have always wanted to say " I'm going to go have tea". Sadly, there were no crumpets but we did have scones and tarts.

I'm fortunate to have friends that want to share in doing things on my list. I ask different friends to do different activities based on interests that I know they have and things we share in common. My friends Rebekah and Rachel went to tea with me and they were the perfect people to share this experience with.

I'll get back to the tea in a minute but I wanted to talk about what I wore first. I had been eyeing this dress from Banana Republic for a while and I decided to get it back in May. I hadn't been shopping much but decided the print was so unique and fun that I wanted to give this dress a try. I ordered the dress in two sizes and of course, the size I really should have gotten ended up being sold out and they only sent one size. I returned the dress and then noticed they had a skirt so I ordered the skirt. I got it and tried it on but I thought it was a little short for my taste. I just happened to go back online and noticed that all of the sizes were restocked. Score! Ordered the dress a second time and was so excited to finally wear it!

Where's the perfect place to wear a dress like this? Why, tea of course! So I donned this lemon frock and set out to meet my friends for tea. Here are some pictures of this lovely lemon dress:

We met at the Sweet Afton Tearoom in downtown Plymouth on a sunny afternoon. It was the first time that any of us had been there. We read over the menu and made our selections. I ordered the Orange Cinammon tea and it was amazing! Great flavor and went well with all of the food. Cucumber with curried mayonnaise and egg salad were my sandwhich choices and these were served with mini quiches as well. I chose the cranberry orange scone and the butter and lemon tarts. Such a great afternoon!

Enjoy these pics for our tearoom outing:

So, another item is crossed off and another thing that was a lot of fun! Thanks to Rebekah and Rachel for joining me for tea!
