Sunday Style: Black and White

I was inspired by a couple of things for this outfit today. I can't remember where I saw it but I did see someone online wearing a similar outfit but with a striped skirt a few weeks back and it gave me an idea. I was also challenged for Style Me March to pair something together that you never wear together. I decided to look at this skirt and this tee together and immediately fell in love.

I love black and white together but you know me, I have to have some bright color in there too! I can't just wear black and white! I decided to wear some bright cobalt blue heels and pair the leopard clutch there for an extra pattern. I'm also wearing some J Crew statement earrings that have a little blue, mint and coral in them. I'm wearing my favorite Lia Sophia flower ring and some sparkly bracelets- one was gifted and one was a Groopdealz purchase. I also belted this outfit with a larger belt from New York and Company that has some detail on it as well.

This was such a fun outfit to wear!  I mean who doesn't love polka dots, plaid and leopard together! I also love that I already owned these items in my closet but never thought to wear them together before!

Here's some pics from the outfit today:

Hope you're having a fantastic Sunday!

Beautiful in Blue

Yesterday's Style Me March challenge was Beautiful in Blue. I decided to take a day off from dressing up so I thought I would participate today with this one. I'm going to a baby shower today and I was thinking about what I should wear (naturally). I didn't want to be too dressed up but I wanted to look nice.

I decided to wear this beautiful cobalt blue basic dress from Gap and pair it with a jean jacket for a more casual look. This dress is super comfortable and has pockets and is waist-defining. It's on sale today online and there looks to be plenty of sizes too! It's going to be a go-to dress this year for sure!

I decided to brighten up the blues with some yellow and pair a nude flat with it as well. Top it off with a great leopard bag and you are done!

Here are some pics from the outfit today:

I'm heading out to the shower and a little shopping too. I'm hoping I win the baby shower bingo or something- that's always fun!

Enjoy your day today!

Forty Before Forty: Archery

A couple of weeks ago I tried one of my other items on my list- archery. I'm telling you that if you have never used sites like Groupon or Living Social, you should! It gives you the opportunity to try things, like this, at a cheaper price. I bought this archery Groupon and it was good for two people for the equipment and the range at a great price.

Anyways, my friend also wanted to try archery so she and I headed out to the indoor range on a Thursday night for some fun. Yes, I did not dress for archery and yes, I was the only one in glitter at the range. I just wanted to wear what I already had on earlier in the day!

We got there and showed our licenses and then signed all the paperwork. The man took us over to the range and asked us if we had ever shot a bow before. Of course, judging by my outfit, I am sure he thought there's no way they've ever been to a place like this before!

He gave us a bow and a can of arrows. He told us how to load the arrow into the bow and then he showed us how to shoot it. Of course I messed up a lot at first but then to my surprise, it actually was a lot of fun!

We shot for about an hour and had a lot of fun. I never hit a bullseye but my friend did- I was okay with that! In fact, I was happy for her! If it were me, I probably would have screamed or shouted or something because I was so excited! Probably better that I didn't hit one then now that I think about it!

The guys that worked there came over a few times to help us and make sure we were okay. My friend and I are both thinking of taking our kids with us and going again since we liked it so much.

Enjoy these pictures from our outing!

I think I'm ready!

Maybe not?

And there I went!

My friend Kelly and I shooting together

That was fun!

Here's the closest I got- not too bad!

I'm crossing another thing off my list and so far, I've had so much fun doing them! I hope you keep reading and following along with me to see what I've got planned for the next thing to cross off my list!

Sunday Style: Cozy

Another cold Sunday in the D. Yesterday it was a little warmer but today we are still in the twenties. Spring has sprung but not officially here in Michigan. Usually I dress up on Sundays but I got a call yesterday that the family wanted to meet up for breakfast. Since we don't see each other that often, I don't like to turn down an invitation to meet and catch up.

I was kind of glad to not have to dress up today since it is so cold and coincidentally, today's Style Me March challenge is titled Cozyness is Happiness.

I picked this outfit today because I think of what could be cozier than a sweatshirt? I love this one from Kohls that I bought last year because it is pretty with all of the embellishments on it. It's large enough to layer (which you all know I love to do) so I decided to be a little springy today with a flowered button up from JCrew that I got last summer. It's perfect for layering like this or wearing on its own.

I'm so cozy wearing jeans and boots too. It's just been my uniform for the last five months so I will admit that I am growing tired of basically the same look. Before you know it though, it will be hot and we will be in dresses, shorts, and sandals again!

I'm bringing out the green with this cool bracelet that I picked up from Target last summer and my fabulous bag that I got at TJ MAxx. I'm super cozy and comfortable in this outfit!

I'm wearing sunglasses but don't let it fool you! It's still freezing out here taking these pics! Enjoy!

Hope you are having a fantastic weekend!

Style Me March: Days 11-20

It's hard to believe we are almost nearing the end of the month already! We finally passed the beginning of spring so hopefully these temps will start to rise soon!

If you've been following along, you know I've been participating in a style challenge on Instagram. It's a list of a theme or a suggestion for each day during the month. It's fun to see what other people come up with too!

Here's the list of days and what outfits I wore:

Day 11- A Little Bit O Sparkle- I chose a look that I blogged about earlier also wearing my sailor skirt and this gorgeous JCrew linen tee. I love to show multiple ways to wear a look and this one is no different. This day was supposed to be about the sparkle so I chose one of my favorite statement necklaces to add some sparkle to this outfit.

Day 12- Sweet Pinks and Peaches and Day 13- So "My City"- I combined two days challenges on this one. It was a snow day for my son and I was incredibly busy at work so I decided to combine a couple of times this week. I chose this beautiful pink sweater with gold glitter elbowpatches because it is one of my favorites. I'm hoping this is the last time I can wear it this season... I wore a polka dot shirt under and my favorite statement necklace from JCrew. I think this is such a fun and comfortable outfit when paired with skinny jeans and boots! And look around - this is so my city- full of snow!

Day 14- Pucker Up- I'm still re wearing clothes since I am also doing my closet remix challenge and this outfit is no exception. I still love my initial sweater and plaid from Old Navy and the polka dot vest from Land's End. I also wore this sparkling statement necklace again- I love the sparkle light all over my face!

Day15- Makes Me Feel Sexy- well this day I didn't post an outfit, but I did show an example of three outfits I have worn in the past that make me feel good. There's something about a good dress or skirt that shows off your waist! All three of these are good examples of this!

Day 16- Saw On A Blog- I did a blog post about this earlier in the week as well. While I don't like to copy what I see, I do like to get ideas and inspiration from others. Why not use this as the perfect opportunity to wear my I Love New York tee that I bought from a street vendor and pair it with cobalt and leopard? This was such a fun outfit!

Day 17- Color On My Feet- Day 18- Layers and Layers Oh My! - I did another combination here of two days because you guessed it. The color on my feet was cognac as in my boots that I am wearing again...I'm also wearing this outfit that I love because of the bright colors and geometric print on the tee. It's fun layering a tee over a chambray and putting them all under a bright jacket! I also wore green jeans this time since it was St Patricks Day!

Day 19- In Black and White- another day, another outfit with layers! I paired this striped jacket from Target with a plaid from Old Navy and a chartreuse vee neck sweater. To complete the look, I wore  black jeans and this fab statement necklace again.

Day 20- My Best Feature- I chose my eyes for my best feature. I like my smile too...I am wearing this Loft top with a Land's End blazer and a mint rosette necklace. I think mixing patterns and textures is so fun!

Well, there's the recap of the last ten days! I'm hoping for a little warmer weather soon for these challenges so I can break out the dresses and pretty shoes!

Have a great weekend!

Annie’s Homegrown Classic Macaroni and Cheese!

First of all, let me thank Influenster for sending me a complimentary coupon to try this family size entrée! I am not one to buy a ton of frozen food usually but I do enjoy trying new things and this was no exception.

I found it very easy to redeem the coupon at my local Target as instructed and decided to plan a meal around this cheesy delicious dish.  In my case, it was a side dish, but I am sure that a lot of people actually use this as a main dish and that’s okay too!

I found the dish very easy to prepare.  Literally, if you know how to read, you can make it. Pop it in the oven, take it out and stir, and then pop it back in and then serve! Easy! This was really great for a busy evening filled with other activities.

I made some barbeque pork chops and a vegetable to go with the macaroni and cheese.  I will be honest that having never tried this before, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  You know it says organic on the label-will it taste good?

It was so delicious! The cheese was perfectly cooked while saucy and the cavatappi pasta was al dente- not too hard and not too mushy.  My family all went back for second helpings too!

I would strongly recommend this product to you all. It’s delicious, affordable, and easy to get at your local store.  I am already ready to try another one of Annie’s Homegrown products!

Here are some pictures that I took before, during and after the cooking. Doesn't it look delicious?

Young Eyes

I was sitting in the chair at the doctor's office waiting for the eye exam to begin. I have to go every year so that I can get my contact lens prescription renewed. I thought I would also get some new glasses this year since I haven't gotten any in a while.

I saw a new doctor this time and she came in and introduced herself to me. She was very friendly and knowledgable and I really liked her a lot. She checked my vision and then told me that my prescription stayed the same again. I told her that I didn't think my eyes had changed in a while. She looked at my chart and said that this was 5 years in a row that my eyes haven't changed. She looked at my age on my chart and said " You have young eyes".

I went out into the frames area and proceeded to pick out my first pair of new frames in 5 years. I may have been a little too excited but a new pair of glasses is a new look! I got a pair that looks a little "nerdy" as my son said to me but they are what's in style now and what I liked.

Fast forward a couple of months and my son is in the chair waiting to get an eye exam. He is eight years old and has always passed the vision test at his annual exam with flying colors. This year, he couldn't read the lines and it was noticeable that one eye was worse than the other. As a parent who wears glasses and wore them as a child, I knew this was probably inevitable, but I wasn't sure it would be this soon.

He sat in the chair and read what he could. The doctor was very nice and explained all of the different things he was doing. At the end, he said that we could go pick out some frames. I don't think it quite registered with my son so I told him that he would have to get glasses. He yelled "No!" loudly.

He stomped out of the room and into the waiting area where he proceeded to pout with his arms crossed. As a parent, you know what they are thinking - especially if you have been there before yourself. I knew he was thinking he would get made fun of and laughed at because that's what they did to me. Kids are mean. But you know what? It's not the end of the world and life will go on. (See my post about The Awkward Years and you will see that I've done just fine for myself).

He shed a few tears and continued to be disenchanted with the whole idea. Kids are nerds who wear glasses! He said. I told him he was so fortunate to have all of the choices that he has today- remember how I looked in the fourth grade with glasses? He laughed. He knows I looked funny.

We went over to the desk where the girl helped him pick out frames. At first, he wouldn't even look into  the mirror. I told him to look at me instead and I would help him. Slowly but surely the mirror got turned around and by the end of the visit, he couldn't stop looking at himself.

He said he could see just fine without glasses and I told him that he will be amazed at what he can see with them on. He doesn't even know what he has been missing!

A few days later, I was sitting in assembly in school and I was talking to his teacher. I told him that my son had to get glasses. I was kind of warning him since I knew my son was so sensitive to this. My son  has the best teacher! You know what he told me? He said " Let me know when he is going to wear his glasses for the first time at school and I will wear mine too. He just got my vote for Teacher of the Year award.

We went and picked up his glasses and he looked outside and told me that he could read all the way across the street! He was so excited that he could see so much better. He has been wearing them nonstop- even to school- and hasn't had any issues yet.

Young eyes. It's amazing what thirty years can do. At eight you are trying to fit in and not look smart and at thirty-nine, you're trying to fit in and look smart. "Glasses are just glasses" I told him. It's what's on the inside that counts. I happen to like what's on the inside and what's on the outside too.

Here's a look at our new frames and our new looks wearing our glasses.

Sunday Style: Blogger Style

Today's Style Me March challenge is "saw on a fashion blog". I have to admit that I don't read a ton of fashion blogs because I like to be original and create looks that everyone else isn't wearing. I also am not doing a lot of shopping this year and I don't want to be tempted to run out and buy everything that everyone else has.

That being said, I do like to read some blogs to get inspiration- similar to how I look at Pinterest or Instagram to get inspiration now and then. I think I tend to do this when I am feeling more uninspired- like now when winter just won't quit!

I also would like to credit different media outlets such as blogs and Instagram and Pinterest for said inspirations during these times. I have to say that I may not be as bold with things like pattern mixing if I had not seen so many other people doing it. I think the key really is to not copy someone all the time but to be an individual and dress uniquely and really have your own style. Style is all you- fashion is more trendy. It's okay to see something that someone else has and style it your own way. I think that's the biggest thing that I have learned since getting into style and fashion!

Well today's outfit is a little bit of everything. I have a busy day today so I need to keep it comfy and casual but cute. I'm wearing cobalt skinnies as I have seen so many other people wearing, a graphic tee and a leopard cardigan. I was originally inspired by leopard and cobalt by Target and I wrote one of my first blog posts about it. I also love that I have seen so many graphic tees being worn with everything from jeans to tulle skirts. They are so fun! This one i actually bought on the streets of New York which makes it fun and special to me.

To top it off, I am wearing a beautiful statement necklace which is something else that I have seen so much of in the last year especially! I'm wearing my black booties again and I wish I was wearing regular shoes with this but alas the temps today just didn't cooperate. I envision this in the future with a pair of neon yello heels- I think that would look even better!

Take a look at the pics for today:

So there you have it! Another outfit in the books. Look for inspiration everywhere you go- whether it be out and about or in cyberspace. Find a look you like and make it your own!

Enjoy your Sunday!
