It's Raleigh Happening!

Image
I'm kind of behind on my blog posts. I've been busy with life and traveling last weekend. A girl needs to catch up on her sleep! I will post outfit posts later but I wanted to recap our spectacular time in Raleigh- you know, before I forget everything!  If you've been following along with me for a while, you know I love Instagram. It wasn't always that way though. I worked out in California a couple of years ago and noticed that it had some great filters and made my pics look awesome. I was private because I was taking pictures of fun stuff I was doing and some of family and friends. I really didn't want people to follow me because I didn't want to share my private life with the world. Fast forward to now when sometimes I wish life on IG was that easy! When people didn't "block" me out of spite (we all know you're mean anyways so no love lost) and people didn't make rude comments or try to sell you wraps. You might wonder why I stay...

Sunday Style: Raleigh Style

Image
My face hurts from laughing so much and I am pretty sure my mouth and throat hurt from talking. My cup overflows.  You know when you meet people and then you talk but have never met them in real life? Today some of those people I actually got to meet and know better. But enough about that... This will be a short Sunday Style post as I didn't get an opportunity to really take a lot of pictures. I'll be writing all about my weekend and the IG Meetup in Raleigh later this week but I wanted to share what I decided to wear today to brunch.  My sweet friend Sacha took a few pics of me crossing the street because a real blogger walks in the street and takes pics, right?! It's not as easy as you think either... I wore this great fit and flare dress from Gap with a black moto jacket over top. I made this appropriate for cold weather and wore tights and boots with it. Of course, I accessorized with pearls and my leopard clutch!  I'm proud of myself since I onl...

Holiday Shenanigans

Image
I thought I would talk about all of the fun stuff that we did over holiday break. I'm fortunate enough to be able to take time off at the end of the year and be able to stay at home with my son and spend quality time with him. He also gets to hang out with his friends and play and I usually get a little time to myself too. It's a win-win!  If you have been following along with me this year, you know I wasn't exactly in the whole spirit of Christmas. I waited to put up the tree and I was out shopping on Christmas Eve. I am usually more put together than that!  I think a lot of it had to do with being sick too and just not having a lot of energy. My friend Kelly tells me though that it's because we didn't do any Black Thursday/ Friday shopping. I think that might be right actually since this year I did stay out of the stores and the malls and did most shopping online. I missed the holiday decorations and displays at the mall and didn't even see Santa! Oh well....

Sunday Style: eShakti Plaid Love

Image
I loved my gold and black party dress from eShakti so much that I had to order again! You guys should really take advantage of this company because the service is great and the customization is even better!  I spied this dress on @teachinfashion  on Instagram and wanted to get it with a coupon I had. I love the way that the dress is really made for you when you choose the customization feature! I chose long sleeves on mine which is perfect for the cooler weather. I think the length is perfect but I could have chosen shorter or longer.  I chose to wear mine with a pearl necklace and some fun brownish patent leather peep toe heels. I thought the leopard clutch was a fun accent too. I already have another way in mind to wear this dress too!  Here are some pictures of today's look:  Here's a picture of my friend Michelle in her dress too! I love the way she paired tights and booties with it!   Hope you're all having a...

January 2015 Book Club Selection

Image
As I promised in my 2014 Reflections post written earlier this week, I want to make sure that I am sharing the book club selections for the month. Our actual book club meets on the 3rd Tuesday night of each month. I started the book club after reading The Happiness Project and getting inspired to start my own. I want to make sure that my virtual friends are able to read our selections and weigh in on their opinions as well. I will review the book after the book club meets and let you all know what everyone thought of it.  Our January Book Club Selection is The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom. Karen picked this one and it can be easily found at the library, Target, Barnes and Noble and Amazon.  This book has been described as being similar to The Help by Kathryn Stockett.  I loved The Help and am already about halfway through this book as well. So far the story is good and well written.  Let me know if you're reading along with us! I look forward t...

2014 Reflections and Looking Ahead to 2015

Image
Recently on Instagram I was tagged to share my highlights from 2014. I considered doing this but soon realized that I have far too many good things to highlight in one square picture. Despite sickness, a death in the family or any other bad things that may have happened, I was truly blessed this year and continue to be blessed.  I was able to finish my Forty Before Forty list (I'll recap in a minute), had a milestone birthday,  we were able to do home improvement projects like new carpeting and a new front porch deck and we adopted a puppy. Let's not even mention that my husband and I both have work, my son is doing phenomenal in school and we finally got that puppy potty-trained. Now if we could only get her to stop being nosy and getting everything out and eating it! We have a roof over our heads and a car to drive. While life is most certainly not perfect, we continue to live and be blessed.  I tried to blog about most of my Forty Before Forty list, but I'l...
