Sunday Style: I Wear What I Want

Not to sound like a spoiled little child, but I wear what I want. It never used to be that way. Not even a little bit. Most of you who know me know I grew up in a very strict home and only was allowed to wear dresses and skirts. And let’s not forget those horrible culottes. Or better yet, please let’s forget them!

Anyways, fast forward to nowadays. I’m so tired of people saying you can’t wear this or you can’t wear that. One of the biggest myths is that bigger women cannot wear horizontal stripes. Why not? I look at it like this. If I’m bigger, I’m still going to be bigger wearing stripes. Nothing will change. My body is still my body.

It took me a long time to get rid of the nastiness in my head. The voice telling me I was too fat. The voice telling me you can’t wear that. The voice telling me to go up sizes because you could see the shape of my butt or my stomach. And I  still felt so uncomfortable because the clothes didn’t fit me right.

Lately, I cannot believe all of the sweet messages and comments that I have gotten on social media. I honestly don’t even know why or where this is coming from. But I will tell you what I tell everyone. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I really started to like my body. The shape of it, the stretch marks, the cellulite, all of it. It’s not perfect - oh my goodness, it’s not perfect. It never will be. But it is mine and I can either learn to like it and love it or stay miserable and cover it up. I’ll take the first choice please.

So when it comes to choices of clothing, I’m now able to say I wear what I want. I love fashion and styling clothing in a way that is flattering and fun. I love putting outfits together and one day hope to maybe even venture out on my own and open a business doing this. Surprise!

I honestly think confidence and a smile help you to rock any outfit. I do think you need to wear what fits. That is really my only rule. The reason for this is that if a garment is ill- fitting, you really are not doing yourself any favors. Pay a few dollars and get it tailored or do not buy it. I also love the retailers who offer garments made to fit you. You give them your measurements and they tailor make something to fit you. There are a lot of these places now and I’m loving it!

So, please, wear what you want too. Be you. Do you. Don’t let anyone tell you no. I mean providing you don’t have a dress code or something...but be true to yourself. Try a style you’ve never tried before! Remember things look so different on the hanger than on your body. Try it on and don’t look away- I say this because I also used to hate looking at myself in the mirror. Learn to really show yourself some love.

This awesome shirt was part of a package of tees that I got from The fun thing about this is I got a grab bag with three tees in it and all of them seemed so good for me! Here’s some pics of the ones I got:

This last one will probably go to my friend Rebekah because  I saw this and immediately thought of her. She’s totally got to have this more than me...

The skirt I’m wearing is courtesy of Rainbow- they have so many good things! You should really check them out if you haven’t recently! This skirt is lightweight and good quality for the price.

This week, wear what you want! Make sure to let me know if you do! Have a great rest of your Sunday!

Thanks for reading and following along with me!
