Sunday Style: Butterflies

I've always loved butterflies. I love going to the zoo or the gardens and visiting the butterfly houses. Butterflies are beautiful and colorful and are the perfect example of something that was ugly that transformed into something beautiful.

For a while, like for maybe a few years, I wanted a butterfly tattoo. I remember when I was working in California, my friend came over and had gotten a tattoo on her wrist. I liked her tattoo and told her that I wanted to get one of a butterfly. She drew one on my wrist and I remember thinking I wasn't quite brave enough to get one- yet.

Fast forward and my life has changed. Butterflies symbolize many things and every time I look down at my wrist, I am reminded of how far I've come and how far I have to go. Butterflies can mean good luck to some people or they can mean everything's going to be all right. It really depends on who you talk to. For me, butterflies symbolize the following things:

      1) Butterflies undergo multiple changes (metamorphosis) to carry on in life
      2) Butterflies are adaptable to change- they have to be able to survive in their environment
      3) Butterflies are insects! It's hard to believe that something so ugly turns into something so beautiful!
      4) Change ensures growth- we have to shed the old before we can become the new
      5) Butterflies represent the never-ending cycle of life

While I know I am not where I need to be, I'm happy with the changes that I've been making. I'm blessed with a support system of wonderful family and friends who build me up and show me where I need to be. I'm learning and growing in God's Word and I'm mentally and emotionally challenging myself everyday to do better. I'm not ready to share right now all of the change that has happened in my life but I am ready to show the world that I have changed and am looking forward to becoming the beautiful butterfly that He intended me to be.

Now, because it's a style post, of course I have to talk about this fabulous dress that I'm wearing from Talbots today! Naturally, when I saw this dress with butterflies, A-line silhouette and pockets ( oh and on major clearance!), I knew it had to be mine!

Here are some pictures from today:

Dress- Talbots (recent on clearance)
Shoes- Just Fab (recent online)
Pearls- J Crew (old)

I'm reminded of that old song we used to sing in church "He's still working on me to make me what I ought to be..." May we all remember that we too are transforming into what He wants us to be. It may happen sooner to others, but if we are patient, we too will see the beauty in the end results.

Hope you're all having a fantastic Sunday!
